"Todd Szada at Umbrella Environmental was awesome! He recommended that we get our vinyl tested for asbestos prior to any attempt at removal - the logic being that if the material did NOT contain asbestos, there would be no need to remove the material. He promptly visited our residence soon after we reached out and obtained a sample, had it tested and let us know that the vinyl did not contain asbestos and there was no need for removal. He saved us a great deal of money and simultaneously sacrificed additional business to help us. Todd is a consummate professional and we are very grateful we found him!"

"Scott was thorough and professional in his evaluation and abatement. He is pricy but also competitive in his cost. The work was done well. He likes to explain situations / educate his customers on how to prevent future problems. We wild use him again and recommend him highly. Christine and Jim"

"This was the best construction company I have ever used. Bill the owner was great to work with. He was very open suggestions and easy to work with. His crew was Nick and Terry. They were about the hardest workers I have ever had to deal with. From start to finish this company was great to work with. We could not be happier with the finished project. Everyone in the neighborhood think it is just stunning. Considering our house is over 115 years old the new porch really gave it a facelift. I highly recommend this company."

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t place hazardous waste in a dumpster unless you specifically ordered a dumpster for hazardous waste removal. If the dumpster company finds hazardous waste that it didn’t approve for dumping, the company will return the waste to you, and you’ll likely face a fine for illegal dumping.

“Testing” can start with your senses: Assessing your water’s appearance, taste, and smell can all be good first steps. The best way to know for sure what’s going on with your water is to use a well water testing kit, which can tell you about the specific levels of bacteria, dissolved solids, and hardness of your water with precision. Have a pro test your well water at least once per year.

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

Lead toxicity comes from inhaling lead or consuming it. Before the 1980s, when the government banned lead from consumer use, it could be found in paint, plumbing, pipes, ceramics, and even gasoline. Lead paint is toxic for the same reason lead itself is toxic, which is why lead poisoning from paint presents the same as lead poisoning from water or food sources, with a slight increase in respiratory symptoms vs. digestive symptoms. Lead paint is most dangerous when it’s old and peeling, cracking, or otherwise disturbed. This increases the concentration in the air and, therefore, in breathable air.

Professional lead testing services typically cost between $200 and $500, with the price varying based on the extent of testing and the specific areas tested within the property.
