Bill was very professional. Never felt pressured to do something we didn’t want. Was very patient with us as we picked things out. Our questions were always answered quickly and we always knew what was going on.

Emally's Construction consistently failed at every step of the project. This is the fifth major renovation I have done, three with the same contractor who subsequently retired. This was by far the worst experience and result. When we submitted a review of his work to the site where we found him, he responded with lies about "continued harassment" when we contacted him precisely once in over 12 months. He accused me of not knowing what I was doing when in fact I have 40 years experience in architecture and construction specification. He expected payment deposits before work was completed. When we complied, he used that leverage to threaten walking away from the project multiple times. He could not read clear architectural drawings, shop drawings or installation drawings. His permit drawings were hand sketches on graph paper with barely legible hand-written notes. He refused to communicate professionally, using text messages and emojis instead. Multiple times when we tried to hold him accountable for the design and fabrication, he threatened to quit, leaving us with an unfinished and non-functional bathroom. He damaged our wood floors because he failed to take proper steps to protect them. His tile work was abysmal aesthetically and functionally. The work does not meet ASTM standards for even basic tile installation. He promised a specific counter profile we requested then failed to deliver, telling us we had to take what he was providing or he would again walk off the job. He left exposed nails when installing the cabinetry. He ruined a side panel to the custom bathroom linen cabinet and refused to re-order the panel from the manufacturer, asserting that he could have *his guy* fix it and we had to accept it. He damaged the hinges and finish on a new door. He ordered the wrong door for the front and back entry and when we showed him his mistake, he again threatened to quit. He damaged the new door to the guest bath. We specifically asked that he not grout the heat vent cover permanently yet he did it anyway. When we told him we were planning to submit a claim with the Better Business Bureau to resolve the issues, he threatened us with liens even though he had already signed lien waivers, costing us unnecessary attorney fees. Being forced to wait until the statute of limitations passed for additional lien waivers meant we were unable to file the BBB complaint. We have a complete photographic record of every mistake and installation error he made in addition to those attached to this review. I would never, ever use Emally's Construction for any project.

This was the best construction company I have ever used. Bill the owner was great to work with. He was very open suggestions and easy to work with. His crew was Nick and Terry. They were about the hardest workers I have ever had to deal with. From start to finish this company was great to work with. We could not be happier with the finished project. Everyone in the neighborhood think it is just stunning. Considering our house is over 115 years old the new porch really gave it a facelift. I highly recommend this company.

I would give him an A- only because of some very minor cosmetic details such as an uneven application of tar around the chimney. This was so minor that I did not even contact him about it post repair.
Description of Work
I originally contacted him to replace the concrete stoop by my back door. He was the only peron I contacted who agreed to perform such a small job. While he was doing this, he pointed out that my chimney was falling apart. Indeed it was and I had not noticed this so I had him repair this also. Then I decided to have him replace a door in the bathroom. He did all this in a short time frame and for what I considered to be a fair price. | |

From the first meeting with Bill the owner when he first came to our home to give us an estimate. He was prompt, courteous and very professional. He took the time to and quot;listenand quot; to our wants, needs and concerns. It was a very positive experience and his pricing was competitive , yet reasonable. We decided on a start date for project and that is the day he started the job! He completed it within the two week time frame he quoted us. The work was exceptional! We are so happy our home looks like new again!

This experience has proven to me that I should tackle any project on my own because any mistakes I make will in the end cost much less than hiring a and quot;professionaland quot;. Within a few days the coating had separated from the walls in large sheets and was falling off. Contacted Emally's and heard back the following day and Bill came out and inspected the issues. He offered to take off the failing coating and just paint it or receive an undisclosed refund and I would finish the job. Allowed contractor to finish the project. In my amateur opinion, the surface was not properly prepped for the the product to adhere permanently. This failure told me two things about this company. That they don't understand the products they are using or they cut corners and skip important steps in everything. Also, the concrete corner of the stoop that needed repair was done so poorly that it was laughable, if it had been repaired for free. Could have done the job myself for a fraction of the cost.
Description of Work
Contracted to do concrete facade repairs of concrete block porch/stoop sides. Removed old concrete patching on sides and applied a coating, "Quickwall in a parging format"? on the vertical surfaces. This would possibly strengthen the structure. Also had a concrete corner that had cracked and fallen off. This was also to be repaired.

Service Provider Response

Customer had a concrete garage over his house with 2 sets of steps built in that were heavily cracked and covered in mold. Multiple contractors explained nothing would solve this problem because of the extensive settling over the 70 year old house. I explained I could try a product called quickwall. In the past this product has worked very well to strengthen these types of areas. Unfortunately with any repair there is no guarantee. Especially for this situation because of the multiple layers of mystery products that people had applied over the years. This was also stated in the contract and explained to the customer. I also explained, if it did not work I would then come back scrape it off and paint it for free. This way there was no down side to him. If it worked he could apply a stone face like he wanted to. (Because of the shape of the garage nobody would install one). If it didn't we would coat it and at least it would look a lot better. This way we tried to strengthen the structure before we just gave up. Once again there was no down side to him. Unfortunately the product did not work, even though it was applied correctly there was just to many layers of old paint, mold, etc.. Once I found out I came back that week, scraped it off and applied a masonry coating as promised. It is a shame this customer didn't appreciate the time and effort we took to try to solve a very long and complicated problem. In this case the repair didn't work as well as we hoped. But from the beginning the homeowner knew it was a gamble and we followed through with our promise of coming back and redoing the final coating for free. I don't know what I could have done different. I followed through with everything we agreed to.

He came when he said he would for the bid. After examining what we needed done, he gave us a quote right on the spot. We liked him a lot , but it was just unfortunate that we were not able to find a time that was convenient for us both, as he was busy.

They did general remodeling, including replastered walls, removed a closet, put in ceiling boards, fixed the basement, replaced a toilet, and installed ceramic tile. In addition to interior work they also poured new concrete in the drive, and built new steps. We were very satisfied with their work, with one small problem which they came back to repair. They are scheduled to do some additional exterior repairs, because we were so pleased with the work on this project.
