"PACE Residential completed a spray foam insulation (with additional blown in fiberglass) job for my house. The job was complicated because of a previous remodel that retained the old roof while constructing a new roof above the old roof. Evan was able to diagnose easily what needed to be done to ensure that we have a fully insulated attic space. I was impressed with the responsiveness to my communications, usually occurring within an hour and certainly no later than the end of the day. The expectations that Evan provided were fulfilled, whether it be the timing of the dumpster drop-off/pick-up, the crew's arrival time, or the duration of the job. Evan also readily pointed out either challenges that he would need to address or opportunities where I could help him do a quality job. He also was proactive and encouraging to show me progress of the work completed through pictures he took or actually giving me tour of the attic. This helped me affirm that he was completing what he said he would do and the quality of work performed. I was quite pleased with the end result. Finally, Evan represents what most people want in a contractor: quick to communicate, responsive to my questions, personable, and performing a quality job. I believe anyone who employs PACE Residential will be pleased with the outcome."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"Dave is professional, friendly, easygoing and polite.  The people who work for him are all respectful and nice. The majority of the work was high quality, and you always pay the price he quotes in his original estimate. I thought his prices were a little high until I started shopping around to other workers in town, then I realized a lot of them were extremely high.  The last bit of work he did was on a brick part of our home exterior. It was incomplete and looked like a child's work, though the same workers did an excellent job on a stone patio and porch stairs area of our house. The clincher was the heat tape he installed on our roof was done so improperly, and we had terrible trouble with ice dams.
In fairness, I learned a lot about insulation and venting, and that heat tape wouldn't necessarily fix the problem. But in the interim, I did have to climb on my roof and re-do his crew's work in the cold."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Rigid foam board insulation is one of the safest insulation materials for basement walls. The panels offer a moisture barrier to prevent mold and mildew build-up. At the same time, this material is also fire-resistant, so you don’t have to worry as much about a fire breaking out as you would with spray foam insulation.

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Ductwork should be wrapped in insulation in certain locations. This includes unconditioned interior parts of the home, such as attics, crawl spaces, basement ceilings, and between floors. Duct joints should also be insulated since they're more likely to leak air than other parts of your system. Building codes in some areas also require ductwork to be insulated.

Yes. Bathroom insulation requires a vapor barrier. As a matter of fact, bathrooms and kitchens are the two areas of the home that should always get a vapor barrier because of the excess moisture. If you don’t have a vapor barrier in place in these rooms, the moisture will build up and eventually lead to mold and bacteria, not to mention the destruction of the insulation.

The most affordable way to insulate behind unfinished walls is to install fiberglass batts or rolls. These total around $0.75 per linear foot, with the width matching the gaps between standard studs perfectly. However, it’s important to consider the R-value of your insulation and the climate in your area, as fiberglass insulation isn’t the best in terms of preventing heat transfer. Plus, the most affordable option may cost more on electricity bills over time. The most affordable way to insulate behind finished walls is to leave them up and use blown-in insulation to avoid drywall replacement.
