"Rainbow painting did an excellent job on our project! George was here every day and was very easy to work with. The crew was very professional and did high quality work. Nick and his wife came back for final touch ups to make sure everything was completed to our satisfaction. We are very pleased with how the condominiums and decks turned out."

"I used this company for four different times and they always made a excellent job, plus they are very clean. The last ones was for my fence and unfortunately I had some issues with my neighbor but, because the professionalism and the support this company gave to me, I was able to complete the stain and my fence and now it looks great. I highly recommend this company."

"The crew worked together to power wash, scrape, sand and paint my deck. It had multiple layers that needed to be removed. It took place from start to finish over 5 days, with 3 to 4 men working. I'm very happy with the results."

Small jobs welcome

"We are snowbirds so Nick did our painting while we were gone. He was trustworthy and took all my art work down and put everything back just as we had left it. It was so great to arrive in the Spring and have our upstairs totally finished! Very well done and he came promptly to do a few touch ups. This winter he will do our finished basement. A great job!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Many decking oils can help slow down algae growth, but they don't completely stop it. These oils work by sealing the wood, which reduces moisture and, therefore, algae growth. Some decking oils also help protect against UV damage, but they need to be reapplied according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the decking stays protected.

There are more pros than cons when staining a deck. Deck stain is more affordable than paint, it protects the wood and allows the natural textures to shine through, and it can revive the appearance of your home. However, deck stain also requires prep work (sometimes days or more), carries more upkeep than a painted deck, and can fade over time if not cared for.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.
