Since 1970, D&D Excavating and Landscape Service, has been serving residential and commercial customers with excavating, landscaping, irrigation systems, lawn maintenance and snow removal. While we offer the same services as a nursery/landscaper, there are differences that can be important to you. As either a general contractor or subcontractor on your project, D&D can provide complete site preparation from excavation through finished landscaping. Upon completion, we also offer a landscape management service. Other specialties we have available include custom excavating for small, hard-to-get-at-jobs and landscape irrigation design and installation. Aeration can level your lawn if the issue is minor soil compaction, so it can help smooth things out if your yard is bumpy from foot traffic or vehicle traffic. However, it won’t slope your yard. If you have small areas where water seems to pool after precipitation, aeration could help, but larger issues with improperly sloped lawns and problems leading to foundation leaks or structural damage will require more comprehensive solutions.

Make your ryegrass thicker by boosting soil health. Add organic matter, aerate the lawn if the soil is compacted, fertilize appropriately, and see if your lawn needs dethatching. Try the tool test first. A screwdriver or a similarly long, thin tool will work best, as spades and shovels are too big. This indicates poor drainage because of too many areas being compacted.

If it’s been a few weeks and you haven’t seen anything pop up, double-check your seed packet and make sure you didn’t miss any steps. Did they need cold stratification (putting seeds in the freezer and then transferring to water before planting)? Do they have an exceptionally long germination period?
