She was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I had two appointments with Jon - the estimate and the stain sample. He made a very good first impression. He was friendly and personable. He answered all my questions and communicated the plan to me very well. After I accepted the quote, he came back for the stain sample. He was timely and quickly sanded down an area of the floor to show me the options. He gave me his knowledgeable opinion of the best options based on my wants and needs. I appreciated that he took those extra few minutes to talk through the options as I was unsure which stain to choose that would best blend with existing wood floor stains. We ended up going with the stain he suggested and weâ re very happy with the choice. Josiah and another contractor came to do the job. They were timely and got down to business right away. As the damage was minor, I declined any repairs but appreciated the honesty from the crew and offers to repair. As there was previous damage to the floors, we expected it to be imperfect, but the crew exceeded our expectations. The floors, transitions, and baseboards looked fantastic! After the work was done, Sara followed up to offer information on flooring care and to answer any questions I had. Despite the extra work and materials needed, he stuck to his original price even when I asked to pay him more, which speaks volumes about his integrity. While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.

Unfortunately, the product Bar Keepers Friend won’t remove etching from stone countertops. In fact, it can make it worse. Bar Keepers Friend contains oxalic acid, which can cause further damage to natural stones like marble or limestone.

Use pH-neutral cleaners specifically designed for stone surfaces to clean granite or marble. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners that can damage the sealant or the stone itself. Regular re-sealing helps protect the surface from stains and damage.

Acid can seriously damage granite countertops and lead to etching and erosion. This is why cleaning with vinegar isn’t recommended. Other acidic items that you should keep away from your granite countertops include:

  • Citrus

  • Acetone nail polish remover

  • Tomatoes

  • Ammonia

In addition, always steer clear of using bleach on or around your granite as it will degrade the countertop’s sealant quickly.

A floor polisher won’t remove scratches from a wood floor, but the polish can fill in surface scratches and make them all but invisible. If you run your fingernail gently over the scratch and it doesn’t catch, chances are that the polish will hide it. If it does catch, you might want to have your floors fully refinished, and you might need to have a professional floor sander in for particularly deep scratches. When in doubt, call a professional floor polisher to determine if polish will fill in your scratches or if you need more in-depth services.
