"After getting a very affordable estimate from Tree Ape, I immediately hired them to cut down 4 trees. They were very safety minded while trimming and cutting. Clean up was superb. They had to leave some clean up behind but returned promptly the next day to finish as promised. It was a pleasure to do business with them. Would highly recommend Tree Ape to any one needing tree service. 5 stars to these very personable and professional young men."

"I wanted some big trees trimmed in my backyard, The man who came to do the estimate looked briefly at the trees and without doing any computing and gave me an estimate that ended up being twice as much as the company I used to do the job. This company is well-known and used by many people. I have used them in the past, but the service person that came was not helpful nor all that friendly--not to mention the estimate being so high."

"I highly recommend Chippewa Valley Handy Hands LLC. My mailbox had been damaged and I was having trouble finding someone to fix it properly. Brent and Kenny were fantastic from the start. They kept me updated on their arrival time. They were professional and gave a fair price. They did an excellent job to ensure it was perfect. They worked quickly and cleaned up everything. My mailbox looks absolutely wonderful. I am completely pleased with the service they provided. I will definitely hire them again for future repairs."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard.

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!

Sometimes, knowing when you need tree-trimming services is straightforward, and other times, you have to do some investigating. Some tell-tale signs that you should have your tree trimmed include:

  • A poorly-formed tree with unruly branches, which makes the tree appear odd-shaped.

  • A tree with tall or large branches that interfere with power lines or your home’s exterior.

  • A tree that provides too much shade in the yard due to branch overgrowth.

If you don’t cut down a dead, dying, or diseased tree, it can become a nesting place for pests like mosquitos, bees, beetles, wasps, fly larvae, and more. Some pests will live in the tree, while others will feed off the decaying wood. Unhealthy trees are also more likely to fall over, potentially injuring people and causing damage to your property.

Poison oak is similar to poison ivy in that it's in the same family of plants. Poison oak is identifiable by its rounded-off leaves and hairy leaf texture. Tree-climbing varieties live primarily in western states while low-growing poison oak bushes occupy the eastern states. Treat poison oak like poison ivy to get rid of it permanently.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.
