"Brandon and Scott were scheduled to come towards the end of May. Scott called and asked if they could come over because they had thee time. They came and put down dirt, applied grass seed and cleaned out all the weeds from along the fence and garden. They even applied dirt to the garden. They worked 8 hours straight and did an amazing job! I would recommend these guys to anyone! Hard wworkers! Very reasonable. To me, they went above and beyond of what they did! Thanks Brandon and Scott"

"Brice is great to work with and does exceptional work. The tree/stump removal (very old and big Ash tree) and tree stump removal on other trees on the property went without a hitch. We hired him back for landscaping work. Would definitely hire him again."

"I am very impressed with the custom wooden ramp Willows Handy Services build for us. Joe did a great job! Its not just functional, it actually looks great with the house! He used pressure- treated lumber added secure and sturdy handrails, and insured the slope was perfect and easy for wheelchair use. It feels extremely safe and stable. The workmanship is excellent and the price was beyond fair. If you need good quality, long lasting custom wood ramp this is the company to call!"

"My rock border was full of dirt and weeds. The guys took out the stones, cleaned them off on the driveway, put down new weed guard, then replaced the stones and added more to fill in. It looks like new! They also sawed down a couple of stumps and worked around my existing plants. Pleased with how it turned out!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Food-grade diatomaceous earth is a natural product that comes from diatoms—fossilized aquatic organisms from tens of millions of years ago. Food-grade diatomaceous earth is considered "natural," while pool or filter-grade diatomaceous earth has been treated and transformed to have higher crystalline silica content.

The best soil to put around a house foundation is fill dirt, which is soil that’s specifically designed for covering large areas and filling in holes. Don’t waste money regrading around your foundation with expensive topsoil. Use topsoil only for the last layer of soil, about 5 to 10 inches, so that when you do your foundation planting, your grass and plants will have the nutrients they need to grow.

Grass varieties such as tall fescue, zoysia, Bermuda, Bahia, and centipede grow best in sandy soil. These types of grass are drought resistant, so they help retain water and nutrients more easily. Consult a local lawn care company to determine the best type of grass to plant in your sandy lawn.

The hydroseed mix—known as a slurry—helps grass seed take root in many ways. Water combines with the mulch, allowing the grass seed to stay moist while grounded in the soil. The extra fertilizer then provides the boost the seed needs to flourish. In just a few weeks, you'll be ready to break out the lawnmower again.

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.
