"First, I would like to say your crew was nice to work with. We have not had enough rain to see if the job was a success or not. I would like to say that we were disappointed in the installation of the egress window well, but after your crew came back out and repaired it, it looks good. We were not happy that your crew did not say anything about the damage that was done to the rain gutter and soffit. I do not think they would have said anything if I would not have seen it and said something. When your crew came back to repair the egress window well, they told me they would go get some paint and paint it. That was not done, and that would not have fixed the gutter and soffit that is only a year old. Now to the inside, we think your crew did a good job installing the drain tile, removing the debris, and cleaning things up, however, we are not happy with the way the concrete was put back in. It is not smooth, there are stones showing, and we think we could have done a better job. When your crew came back out to repair the egress window well, they said they could grind off the high spots, but I told them not to bother because it will still look like a kid did the job."

"The inspection was performed by a sales representative.  Though he was very professional, I felt that I spent the $79 basically to get an estimate for future roof work, which might have been available for free.  There was one part of the estimates provided that I wanted to get done right away (extending a bathroom vent which vented into the attic to vent through the roof and spraying for mold). However, when I emailed the person, he called back to say that it was too small a job and they weren't interested. That didn't make me happy and made me less likely to do the more extensive work later with this firm.

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

A seasonal routine is crucial for maintaining the results of egress window service projects. In spring, test the window's operation and check for any damage caused by WI's freeze-thaw cycles. In the fall, clear debris from the window well to prevent drainage issues and inspect the weatherstripping for a tight seal. This proactive care ensures your investment remains functional and compliant with safety standards.

Helpful?

The success of egress window service projects in Appleton depends on superior drainage to handle the local clay soil and a high water table. Proper excavation and backfilling techniques are vital to prevent foundation pressure. Using materials rated for regional temperature extremes and ensuring the installation meets all requirements from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services are essential for safety, durability, and long-term performance.

Helpful?

An installation typically takes two to three days, but the overall timeline for egress window service projects in Appleton can vary. The area's heavy clay soil can slow down excavation, and navigating local building code requirements can also add time. Scheduling during the region's spring or fall freeze-thaw cycles may introduce further delays, so it's wise to plan ahead for a smooth process from start to finish.

Helpful?

Certain home features in WI can complicate an installation. Homes with older stone or block foundations require specialized cutting tools and expertise. Look for signs of foundation settling, like cracks in the walls, which can affect window placement. Before digging, it's critical to identify the location of underground utility lines, interior plumbing, and HVAC systems that could obstruct the planned excavation area.

Helpful?

The climate in Appleton significantly impacts the scheduling of egress window service projects. Frozen ground in winter makes excavation nearly impossible, limiting most work to late spring through early fall. Spring can present challenges with saturated clay soil from snowmelt, while fall projects race against the first freeze. For these reasons, summer often provides the most stable and reliable conditions for a successful and timely installation.
