"Savana has been such an amazing person to talk to and receive information from about windows. We never knew there was so much that goes into a window and itâ s install and she gave us all her knowledge. We werenâ t sure if we wanted new windows yet but she made us feel so much better about getting them sooner. She has honestly been such an awesome person to talk to and spend 5 hours with! It wasnâ t all just about windows and bathtubs we got to know her and her company. Weâ re excited to have new windows for the winter and not learn what winter is like with 90 year old windows. And weâ re even more excited to be able to open our windows without them being painted shut!"

"We had our home repainted in July of 2026 after 32 years, and we could not be happier with the work done by Five Star Homes! We requested quotes from five different companies, but Travis really took the time to make a thorough examination of the condition of our home. Because this company does more to fix houses than just paint them, he recommended some repair to our siding, specifically to replace the lowest boards with Hardie board, which is much more durable than other materials and will stand up to wet Washington conditions. Travis answered all of our questions. Five Star was a clear choice. Our decision was not made on price, but on the confidence that the repairs and painting would be done professionally and with respect for our property. David’s team worked very quickly and covered our trees, bushes and windows as needed. The rains were coming, so they returned as soon as the weather was dry and finish the job. Five Star definitely lives up to its name!"

Windows FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace the frame around a window by completing either a partial replacement or a full replacement. With a partial replacement, your window specialist will remove the trim around the window and replace or repair just the damaged portion. For a full replacement, your tech will need to remove the window, replace the frame, and then reinstall the window.

Window screens are available in several standard sizes. Common dimensions include 24 to 36 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall, as well as sizes like 18 by 14 inches and 20 by 20 inches. These often correspond to standard window sizes, such as 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall or 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. Screens are also sold in replacement rolls to accommodate various dimensions. It is always best to measure your windows for accuracy before a repair or replacement. If your windows are a non-standard size, you will likely need to order custom screens, which can increase the cost. However, a screen does not necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to use a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.

The visibility through tinted house windows depends on the lighting. During the day, when it is brighter outside, privacy film prevents people from seeing into your home. However, this effect reverses at night. If you have lights on inside, it becomes brighter indoors than outdoors, allowing people to see inside. To optimize privacy, you can select from various shades of film, ranging from lighter to darker, which affects how much is visible from the outside.

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.

The best thing to clean windows with is a mixture of white vinegar, warm water, and dish soap. This will remove dirt, pollen, and grime without destroying any tints or protective films on your glass. You can also use a commercial window cleaner, but make sure to choose one that doesn’t have ammonia in it, as this can damage window coverings and frame materials over time.
