"Efrin from Nextphase Builders was very professional and helpful with the repairs I needed done. He contacted me, came to look at the job to give me a quote and then arranged to have it start quickly. Marco did a fantastic job at the repair, again being professional and helpful. "Jeff removed an old backsplash and vanity top. Then plastered and textured my bathroom walls. He also Installed a new quartz vanity top, installed a new faucet and plumbing as well as a new vanity light and mirror. He did a really great job and I’ve already hired him again for a couple of additional projects including a gutter cleaning and roof clean with moss removal. Tomorrow he’s doing some heavy lifting yard cleanup and relocating some railroad tie edge along my driveway. There doesn’t seem to be much he can’t do."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Regular inspections and cleaning to prevent moisture or pest issues.

With its breathability and flexibility, lime plaster is among the most durable of all plaster types. It's also fire-resistant and has a proven track record, as people have been using it for thousands of years.

However, all plaster types will last for many years with the right care and treatment. Proper preparation and installation will also help ensure your plaster walls look great for as long as possible.

Many services include repainting to match the existing surface. Confirm with your provider.

To maintain plaster walls, inspect them regularly for cracks and seal them early. Clean the walls by dusting regularly or using a gentle, damp cloth. It's also important to avoid moisture exposure. Repainting as needed will help maintain the wall's appearance and longevity.
