"Hired West Mechanical to install a bathroom exhaust fan and light fixtures. Exhaust fan was left with duct disconnected and wiring exposed. Called Customer Service multiple times over 3-week period to get an estimate to reconnect the duct and address the wiring, still unresolved with open permit. UPDATE: I received a call from one of the company owners when he was made aware of the issue. He apologized for what I experienced and said it was very atypical for the company. He arranged to have an electrician complete the work the next day. The work included installation of a new duct transition that was not in the original scope, which was done at no charge. West Mechanical also sent a Supervisor the day after the work was completed to verify that the work was done to my satisfaction. Although I was unsatisfied earlier, I recognize that not every job will go as planned and I have been very impressed by how West Mechanical has responded. I would not hesitate to use them in the future."

"I am extremely pleased with my services from Tripped Electric. From working with their administrative staff (Tessa) on scheduling, to the 4 electricians who worked at my home (Jacob, Skyler, Marcus, and Justin) -- this business could not be better at what they do or more professional. I would 100% work with Tripped again for any of my electrical needs."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need a ductless unit in every room. Ductless AC units don't work the way that window units do, where the air doesn't travel outside that room. The indoor air handlers all attach to the outdoor condenser. While the air doesn't travel the way that traditional ductwork would, the ductless AC units create zones so that one part of the home can be cooler than another. They can spread effectively enough that indoor units only need to be placed in main living areas.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.

Aside from needing HVAC repair, there are times when you may need to replace your unit. HVAC replacement costs $5,000 to $12,500. Here are some telltale signs that your HVAC unit is going bad:

  • Your unit is 10 years or older.

  • Your home is very humid.

  • The unit keeps cycling without producing cool air.

  • You need to repair the unit frequently.

Running an air conditioner with mold is not safe because it can spread harmful mold spores throughout your home. Exposure to these spores can trigger various health problems, including respiratory issues, allergies, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, itchy eyes, and a sore throat. It may also aggravate asthma in household members. Continued exposure can increase the risk of more serious illnesses like sinus infections, pneumonia, and bronchitis. If you suspect mold in your air conditioner, you should stop using the system until it has been properly cleaned to avoid health risks and further contamination.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.
