"Communication with the office staff was excellent. The crew showed up on time and were clearly experienced and had a rhythm and division of labor worked out. My job turned out to be more extensive than expected, and they had to coordinate with the painter I had hired to come in right after. Here's why I would recommend considering A1. First, the asbestos was entirely removed and managed properly. Also, when where were some issues I needed resolved, involving the texturing of the ceiling after the asbestos was removed, I wrote the company,. I explained the situation, and the owner wrote me back promptly to professionally address every one of my questions. A team came back out that day to hang up some forgotten light fixtures and were so focused on making sure I was satisfied with the overall job, that I was impressed. I hate to complain about any job, but I felt like such a valued, respected customer that I was glad I asked my questions. Stuff will go wrong on big projects, especially on tight schedules--no doubt. So, the way my concerns were addressed, not dismissed, and resolved right away was wonderful. How a company responds to customer concerns is a hallmark of the company's culture. So, they did a perfect job of removing the asbestos (which is a giant technical effort) and responded fantastically so some follow-on issues. So, I would recommend giving A1 a call if you even think you may have asbestos and need it removed."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

The presence of asbestos fibers in siding is a critical health concern, as they can be inhaled and lead to severe respiratory issues. Even if asbestos siding appears to be in good condition, it may become a danger if it deteriorates over time or is disturbed during a renovation project, as this can release airborne fibers. Exposure to these fibers is linked to life-threatening diseases like asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer.

No, but it’s common that they do. Gravity furnaces weren’t terribly efficient so wrapping either the ductwork in asbestos, the furnace itself, or both, was something done regularly. This allowed the system to retain more heat. At the time, this greatly enhanced the efficiency of the furnaces but it wasn’t until later that we became aware of just how carcinogenic and dangerous asbestos could be.

Vermiculite insulation can be hazardous if it contains asbestos. Asbestos fibers, when released into the air and inhaled, can pose significant health risks. The EPA recommends leaving vermiculite insulation undisturbed to avoid potential exposure. It is crucial to have vermiculite insulation tested by a certified professional to determine if it contains asbestos. If asbestos is present, proper precautions should be taken, including containment or removal by licensed abatement professionals.

Most manufacturers stopped putting asbestos in linoleum before 1980 due to public concerns about its toxicity. However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) didn’t ban asbestos-containing products until 1989, and a comprehensive ban was not announced until 2024. This means that homes built after 1989 may still have asbestos in their flooring.

Asbestos has not been used to manufacture new siding since the early 1980s. So, while asbestos is not currently used to make new siding, it can still be present in the siding of homes built before the 1980s. The best way to know if your siding has any type of asbestos is to have a professional test it.
