Anyway, Dave at Heartline heard my story & was determined to fix it. At no charge he brought another man & a backhoe, removed a fence panel, reloaded as much of the wrong material as he could, then delivered a load of the CORRECT top soil. Then he carefully restored my fence. This took them half a day to accomplish, & while I'll never have what I paid for (because much of it was used to build a berm & plant trees, so it's way too far gone to correct the whole job) at least I have enough good soil to continue my plantings. Dave's attitude is stellar & he truly understands professionalism & great customer service. I will be returning for alder chips & other products later this summer. Way to go Heartline!!! They adjusted their own schedule to accommodate our interest in getting the survey done before a certain date, and their crew came to the house and introduced themselves before beginning work.
The job was difficult physically because some of the land is very steep and heavily overgrown with brush and vine maple, but the crew was unfazed. They were able to locate several of the markers from a previous survey, and marked those along with newly calculated ones.
The amount of tree-felling and brush-cutting the crew had to do to get straight lines of sight meant that they ended up needing more time than originally was expected, and they had to leave before walking the boundary with us because they'd been called back to the office. They did however do a good job of leaving readily identifiable new markers at each corner and whenever the distance between points was 150 feet or greater.
The crew worked hard, the bill came in slightly below estimate, and we requested and were provided with a full-size (24" x 36") printout of the final product. We were very satisfied with the way this project was conducted and enjoyed talking the Chris Butler in the office a few days later when we happened to be in Chehalis.
One thing we asked about was getting the geographic coordinates of our parcel corners since surveying language is different, using bearings and distances from a known point. We understand surveying GPS is far more accurate than what is available to consumers, and once this last request is addressed, I will add an update here.
4/14/15 Update: For those who may want a survey with GPS coordinates, it IS possible to do, but it would add to the cost and also not be feasible under tree cover. For a survey our size, Butler Surveying says it would add about a thousand dollars to the cost."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/wa/chehalis/butler-surveying%2C-inc-reviews-8587996.htm"},"position":5},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Torrance Construction Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"WA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Richard C."},"reviewBody":"We gradually realized that Torrance Construction and partner Doug Magee who was in charge of the job had allowed faulty work to be done in most areas of our house. While Torrance Construction offered to redo the work, it was obvious when they had to replace large portions for the third time that they were simply not skilled enough to do an adequate job. We fired them after six months and had to hire another contractor to tear out most of their work and replace it. The list of inadequate work was huge and included: MAHOGANY FLOORS 1. Mahogany floor laid not to industry standards ? stacked joints rather than random length boards 2. Stair noses not tongued/grooved for firm/stable joins at stair edge ? noses bend and make a noise now and could break off leading to a safety hazard. Noses were installed prior to baseboard being installed, which makes it nearly impossible to install baseboards. 3. Uneven ridges at the upper foyer where two areas were joined together and the flooring was installed over the uneven areas without leveling them. 4. Some pieces of the flooring appear to have large dings or holes in them ? should have been cut out or rejected. 5. Wood floor not adequately protected from addition traffic and/or work in the house ? there was sand under the paper that was laid and it has scratched the floor. 6. Top step to upper foyer is not square with the mahogany nose REGLETS 7. Reglets were not taped during painting and, as a result, have paint on them 8. Base of wall in entry foyer not built out to accommodate the baseboard/reglet join at the corner 9. Reglets on both sides of the upper foyer have to be replaced because the mahogany floor was already installed. FIREPLACE 10. Fireplace stone installation not to industry standards ? it has been removed and replaced twice and is still installed wrong. 11. Fireplace hearth face not prepped adequately for marble 12. Step risers from foyer to living room are different heights. 13. Floor marble continued to be laid in dining room and on hearth when subs were asked to stop. FLOOR TILES 14. A number of marble tile have chips on edges or are cracked. 15. Kitchen and dining room floors not floated prior to marble installation so tile is disintegrating SHOWERS AND BATHROOMS 16. Mud on shower was either mixed or installed incorrectly ?it was cracked and flaking and must be replaced. 17. Masterbath wall damage ? faux paint finish 18. Masterbath ceiling damage ? venting fan and heather incorrectly wired when vent was fixed. 19. Masterbath shower tiles replaced twice with damage to edges both times ? fix is unaccdeptable 20. Kitchen floor was inproperly prepared and so now dishwasher will not fit under show. We settled with their insurance company for $150,00 in damages which was considerably less than the damage we suffered. "These guys did a fantastic job removing a whole lot of blackberry vines and a ton of ivy from an overgrown area of my property. They also cut back some huge laurel hedges and did a really great job pruning a cherry tree that had been neglected for too long. Not an easy job but they got it done very quickly and everything looks fantastic. "
