"Exceeded expectations! Hired Joe's to turn a horrible dirt pile into a lovely backyard. They did that and more. Built multiple stone walls plus one wall from concrete block. All was perfect, done with utmost care and skill. Everyone involved was professional and friendly. They brought creative design ideas that made the whole project better. Respectful, friendly, funny, skilled. Communication was easy. Fully went the extra mile to make everything perfect. I would hire again in an instant!! Now it's time to add my plants!"

"After reading positive reviews on Google I contacted Stephen for an estimate. He sold himself and company well so I hired him for a major project on our new construction. His work included paver installation, laying gravel, curbing, sprinklers, low voltage landscape lighting, and sod. On November 28 he guaranteed the work to be done by December 15 (except sod). On April 16 we entered into an agreement to void the contract with a reduction of cost to compensate for the work not completed. Over the 4 plus months I received many excuses why he could not do things, many no shows for days he committed to work, and a lot of less than truthful information. I could go on but I think the 4 months’ delay and the list of work that I need to finish the job speaks for itself. The low voltage lights are not installed, the sprinklers were not set and had no flow nozzles in them, 3/4 of the sprinklers pop up at an angle and need to be reburried, the pavers are scratched because he didn’t use a pad on the compactor, no pressure reducer or filter on the drip irrigation, drip irrigation runs not attached to a water supply, and solenoid valves not connected to the timer."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Moss growing in a lawn is a sign of poor soil that makes it hard for grass and plants to grow. Moss thrives in these conditions and spreads easily, so it can quickly take over your yard if it’s lacking in nutrients, too wet, or has an excessive amount of shade. Moss in the lawn isn’t always a bad thing, but it can prevent turfgrass from forming deep roots.

It’s best to fix lawn depressions during late spring. You want to wait until after your last frost date and when the yard is not too wet. This also allows ample time for new grass growth once you reseed.

Whether or not grass will fill in bare spots itself depends on the type of grass you have. For example, grass with rhizomes (e.g., Bermuda grass) and stolons (e.g., Saint Augustine grass) will naturally fill in bald spots as it spreads laterally. However, clump-forming grasses will not spread.

The screwdriver test involves trying to push a screwdriver into your lawn. If it goes in easily, you’re likely overwatering and should cut back. If there’s moderate resistance, you have a good watering schedule and soil composition. If there’s a lot of resistance or you can’t get the screwdriver into the soil, you may need to aerate your lawn to reduce compaction and increase your watering schedule.

Some grass types grow better than others on hard dirt. For example, hardy grass types like perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass will grow better on tough soil. Keep in mind that you should still consider your area’s climate when deciding on a grass type.
