"I highly recommend Revival! Josh has successfully completed remodel, residential and large commercial projects for us. They are easy to work with, very efficient with their time, and extremely knowledgable of the code. Every experience with them exceeded our expectations. "I have never seen such a great company before. They transformed my whole back garden. It was exceptional work and our garden is unrecognizable, idyllic in comparison with the way it was before. I can not recommend this company more highly! If there were infinite starts available this company would get them. I am very very pleased!"

"It was great working with Refine Design Architecture for our cabin expansion. They listened to our requirements, offered feedback and produced designs that fulfilled our vision of an expanded cabin. We were not pressured into something larger or smaller than our vision. They initially produced "primary" and "alternate" designs until I realized one design would be much easier to build and maintain. Even our kids(8 and 10) input was considered and the new cabin will have a "kid room.""

"Wow so far amazing. We waited a year to find this person and so far he has exceeded our expectations. Took him a week to get further than the previous architects did in 9 months. Highly recommended.!!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.

Your state’s architect licensing registry is an excellent place to begin when finding an architect. The state must license architects after completing the required education and with a minimum amount of experience. You can also ask other homeowners with similar projects who they used and their experience.

While you will always work with a team of professionals at some point during your home build, homeowners with experience can take on some part of the process. Manage the initial brainstorm, brief writeup, and floor layout phase with minimal assistance before contacting a general contractor. And while you can purchase stock blueprints for some home designs, it's always best to speak with professionals when choosing one ideal for your property.

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.
