"The fan on heat pump for my daughter's home quit running on a Sunday.  I suspected it was due to failure of Run Capacitor.  My daughter purchased one from Campbell & Company for $50+ tax the following Monday.
When I learned of the price, which I felt was an exorbitant amount, I visited Campbell & Company.  I noted that such parts are available from The Home Depot for $15.49 (order only) and Grainger for $21.09 and wanted to know why they charged so much.  Parts Manager's response was that they couldn't compete with pricing from "Big Box Stores."
I personally feel Campbell & Company discourages Do-It-Yourself repairs by over charging for parts.  I wonder if a man versus a woman had purchased the part if the price would have been different, e.g., possible unethical behavior based upon gender.

"They showed up on time, and went through my list of things that had to be done, Examined each item, it was determined that what the inspector was calling romex wiring, was not, it was wire that was able to buried in the ground, so that it wasn't needed to be attached to the floor Joists, however we decided to just go ahead and terminate the power to the wire and cut it loose from the outside of the house. The inspection found GFI outlet outside that was bad, we found two that were bad and replaced. The breaker box had a 20amp breaker on a 14g wire, needed to be replaced with a 15 amp breaker, also to cover a blank on the panel, which was done, they did have to go back to the shop to pick up the proper breaker an blanks. The inspection report found several junction boxes that needed to covers, one up in the attic and another in one of the bedrooms. All work was done in a professional manner and other than the side trip to pick up parts was done in a fast and efficient way.
I will more than likely used them again and again, and would recommend them to others.

"The furnace took 4 days to get approved( not counting a Sunday) the others were quick but the water heater had to be ordered so without hot water for a week. One ceiling fan was easy but within a year their policy changed and They would not install the one I purchased and had to get a new one approved and then ordered online and took several weeks to get straightened out. Not sure who was at fault, AHS, installer or scheduling with renter. Fee is usually $75 per visit"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.
