"Ian did an entire gut and remodel of our bathroom and we ran into countless other issues that needed to be fixed that were unplanned and he never once complained. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and has some of the best work ethic I have ever seen - he shows up, puts his head down, and grinds out some incredible, attention to detail work. One thing I really appreciated was that he swept up and cleaned nightly when he was finished, I can not say enough good things! We will 100000% be hiring him again. Worth every penny! Thanks again, Ian!!"

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Whatcom Gutter & Roof Cleaning in the spring of this year to clean my gutters and sweep the pine needles off my roof. They arrived as scheduled, completed the work perfectly and left absolutely no mess behind. I also selected them because they offered a multi-year contract allowing me to pay a small fee monthly for my annual cleanings so I'm not (A) paying out a large amount all at once, and (B) I don't have to worry about annually scheduling my cleaning. They come out and do it automatically. I'm also able to call them mid-year if I'm experiencing a clog or some other problem impairing the water flow through my gutters. I have no hesitation recommending Whatcom Gutter & Roof Cleaning."

House Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Smoke can be tricky to remove from your home, especially after a fire. The best way to eliminate the smell is to open the windows to increase ventilation and air circulation in your house. Then, use white vinegar to wipe down walls, furniture, and floors. Try steam-cleaning carpet and other upholstered items to remove the smell of smoke.

Soot can be harder to remove compared to other types of stains given its acidic nature. It can also cause underlying paint to peel off during the cleaning process. If your soot issue is a result of smoke damage, it’s recommended you call a pro to help remove it versus doing it yourself.

You can always use a homemade vinegar solution as a natural alternative to commercial cleaning products. To make and use a vinegar cleaning solution, fill a spray bottle with equal parts white distilled vinegar and warm water. Spray the solution liberally across the tub surface. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes before wiping it down with a non-abrasive sponge or cleaning cloth, then rinse with clean water. If a line of soap scum is still visible, spray it with the vinegar solution. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently scrub the residue away before wiping it down and rinsing again.

To determine whether you can use cleaning wipes on baseboards, figure out if your trim and baseboards are painted or stained. Painted baseboards can often handle wipes that contain bleach or similar disinfectant. However, steer clear of using these wipes on unfinished wood baseboards, especially if you use them regularly.

These hardworking scrubbers should be replaced every six months. Most toilet brushes have nylon bristles, and over time, these bristles can bend, fray, or fall out, reducing the effectiveness of the brush. Silicone brushes hold their shape longer, but the softer bristles are less effective at removing residue and build-up. To clean your toilet brush after use, spray it with a disinfecting cleaner and let it air dry by closing the handle under the toilet seat and letting the brush head drip into the toilet bowl.
