"Hired company to epoxy two car garage. Took them three weeks to complete job because of weather. Initial problem with sanding residue from garage floor ending up on my car parked in the driveway. Brought to attention of owner first thing in the morning. He responded in 10 minutes and took my car to local deluxe car wash. Problem corrected. Job looks very nice. They also sealed some cracks in cinder block foundation. I would hire them again."

"We hired Warren to renovate the bathroom in the log cabin my wife and I purchased last summer. We expected that Warren would do good work-we did NOT anticipate he would give us the work of art we now enjoy. Our cabin is almost 50 years old, so the existing bathroom was quite dated, and the home has some idiosyncrasies to it-it was hand-built by its former owners almost 5 decades ago. And, as this was our first Reno of this type, Warren was an excellent advisor in how we should redo it, what would look good, and what might not. We followed very one of his suggestions, and are so grateful that we did Warren recommended we install a slate-tile shower that he himself built. it is simply breathtaking. He also advised us on a couple of upgrades that he thought we would like-we love our bluetooth speaker/light/fan, and the heated floor turned out to be a MUST this winter. Warren's work quality if first rate. Everything in our bathroom was built incredibly well, and rock solid. He showed up to work in the middle of several of the snow storms we had. He worked as fast as he was able, but our charming old cabin provided a couple of challenges, or, as he and I would joke, "opportunities for some creative problem solving." His prices were quite reasonable-most our new bathroom looks like it might cost MUCH more than it ended up costing, and it's far nicer than any we have in our main home in Massachusetts. And, when the work was completed, you would literally never have known he was here. The post-job clean up was immaculate. Warren is knowledgable, quite friendly, and was simply a pleasure to work with. In fact, we're looking for more projects to work on around our cabin when the weather gets nice. If we could give him more than 5 stars, we would."

"Oliver was very polite, courteous and flexible to help me keep the project on track. Other contractors caused him to change his schedule with me twice and in the end he came up on a Saturday to finish the job. His prices were fair, his craftmenship was excellent, and his knowledge of more than tile install was invaluable on this job. He was also quite helpful giving me suggestions when I asked for them. I will definately go to him first on my future project needs."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, laminate flooring is better for people with dust or other allergies as laminate is easier to clean. Carpet can trap pollen and other allergens, allowing them to be kicked up into the air again with foot traffic. Consult your flooring specialist about the best types of carpet or laminate flooring to use based on your household member’s needs.

When choosing whether to install carpet in your home, consider the pros and cons of this change:

Pros

  • More affordable than laminate flooring

  • Gives the room a warmer feel

  • Softer on feet

  • Wide variety of textures and colors

  • Hides dirt easily

  • Faster and easier to install

Cons

  • Shows wear and tear more quickly than laminate flooring

  • Shows stains

  • Soaks up liquids

  • May not work well in some areas, such as a bathroom

  • Less durable than laminate flooring

  • Susceptible to water damage, mold, and mildew

Carpeting has a few benefits on stairs in addition to being a cost-effective floor covering. It absorbs sound, dampening footsteps. It also provides additional traction, which is especially important if you install linoleum floors, epoxy flooring, or any other floor covering that can become slippery if you’re wearing socks. Therefore, carpets can help prevent slips.

You might be wondering, “Is laminate flooring toxic?” The product does contain formaldehyde, which is found in the resins used to bind the wood fibers together. But the chance of overexposure and adverse reactions, such as allergy- or asthma-like symptoms, is low unless you are exposed to formaldehyde in other places, i.e., if you work with formaldehyde regularly outside the home. Keep in mind, too, that many household products have the potential to pose a health hazard, such as cleaning products.

It depends on what’s important to you. For instance, if you’re looking for the lowest-priced carpet material, consider polyester. Alternatively, you could go with olefin (also known as polypropylene), another synthetic carpet material that costs about the same as polyester. Otherwise, if durability is the priority, nylon or wool would be a better choice.

Not sure what you need? A local carpet installer can explain the difference between various carpet types and help you decide what’s best for your home.
