"We hired Josh to cut down and remove two very large dying trees on our property. The trees were located very close to power line so we wanted to make sure we hired the right company to remove the trees safely. Josh was able to take down the trees safely and removed all of the debris. He showed up on time, as scheduled and worked tirelessly to finish the project on schedule. He left the property looking much better than we expected. We were so happy with the tree removal that we hired him to return to help us with our apple orchid. The apple orchid is an old orchard and has not been trimmed in probably 20 or more years. Josh was able to open up the trees. We’re we’re able to harvest apples for the first time since we owned the property. As an added bonus, we had a tree that we weren’t sure what it was. After Josh trimmed it, we got the first plums ever. I entered them in the local county fair and we got a blue ribbon! Josh is honest, hardworking, and will complete your project as promised with integrity. Need I say more."

"I recently had the pleasure of hiring Joe Candido of Avalon Tree Service to remove a 100 + foot tree on my property. It had needed to come down for quite some time and a recent wind burst had caused a large branch to come crashing down in my yard in the middle of the night. I received multiple quotes and they came in a wide variety of pricing and the methods that would be used to take down the tree. One thing that struck me about Joe was that he called me right back after I left him a voicemail and set a time to come look at the tree. Upon arrival he looked at the tree and took videos and pictures of it and said he would be back in touch soon to review the method he would use to take it down and what my cost would be. A few days later Joe called me back and we set a time to meet. Joe was very detailed on how he would tackle the job, when he could do it and how much it would cost. I was so impressed on how detailed he was and that his method (climbing the tree and cutting it down) would have the least amount of damage to my property. All the other companies I spoke with said they needed to get a bucket truck or a crane to do the job and that I should plan on having some serious damage to my lawn and the stone wall surrounding it. I decided to go with Avalon and I was not disappointed. Joe came early on a Saturday morning with his impressive array of chainsaws (small, medium and gigantic) and climbing tools. It took the entire day and piece by piece the tree came down until it was just a stump. I am very happy with the job that was done and the fact that everything was cleaned up and there was no damage to my lawn or my wall. I found Joe very knowledgeable and friendly and most of all responsive to my questions and concerns. In my opinion its very rare to find any contractor that returns your calls and does what they say they are going to do at the agreed upon price and that is why I would not hesitate to recommended Joe and Avalon Tree Service."

I have always had a passion for trees dating back to my dendrology classes at Miami University. That passion has fueled many years in the arboriculture industry as a crew leader and climber. I'm happy to consult with you on your trees or shrubs and options to explore to preserve them for the long-term. Being an ISA Certified Arborist, I'm always striving to keep up with industry standards and grow myself.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Costs reflect the size of the tree or shrub, the complexity of the task, location accessibility, and disposal needs, and comprehensive quotes vary accordingly.

According to scientists at Penn State University, spotted lanternflies do not typically kill the trees and plants they feed on, but they can cause branches and segments to die off. However, they have been found to kill cultivated grapes, which can have devastating consequences for vineyard owners and regions that heavily rely on vineyards to create jobs and generate revenue. They have also killed the Ailanthu altissima, known as the tree of heaven, though this is classified as a noxious and invasive weed tree.

How often and long you should water a tree depends on the species and if it is mature or newly planted. The amount of water is also based on the tree's size. A good rule of thumb is approximately 5 gallons per inch of the trunk's diameter.

Adjusting watering to the recommended suggestions for the tree type and weather conditions is vital. For instance, watering trees during a drought is necessary, and you may need to water more frequently than usual.

There are several signs that may indicate a tree needs to be cut down. These include visible damage to the trunk or branches, a hollow trunk, extensive storm damage, or a significant lean to one side. Other warning signs are pest infestations or the tree growing too close to a house, power lines, or other structures. It is best to hire a professional arborist to inspect the tree, as they can determine if it can be saved or if removal is necessary.

Palm trees aren’t much different than your typical tree removal. Removing a palm tree is a standard procedure as long as pros have the proper tools and supplies. For DIYers, however, there are some risks associated with palm tree removal. Palm trees have spiky fronds, bark, and patches of hefty wood. So, it’s best to let an experienced tree service pro remove a palm tree.
