"They were very professional and dedicated. Some of the decks were in pretty bad shape. They stayed on it until all old mold was out. One of them was in sch bad shape that when it was wet it was dangerous. Well now it looks like new. Very nice work. Thank you!"

"Provider did an excellent job once we were finally able to get him to come over. He was not familiar with the deck stain I bought so in turn we did not get the two coats applied like we wanted. This is partially my fault due to me not informing him that the two coats need to be applied Wet on Wet (applied within 20 minutes of each other). Other than that he showed up when he said he would and performed the work, and a little extra, in a timely and professional manner.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.

In most cases, there should be a small gap between the house and the deck, usually no more than ½ to ¾ of an inch. This space allows water and moisture to flow through instead of pooling against the side of your house. It also lets flashing protect your siding from runoff, which is one of the most common issues with decks.
