Mr. Potter responded immediately and we planned a new kitchen, including removal of old linoleum and installation of new bamboo wood floors. We wanted to use local merchants and Mr. Potter was extremely helpful in helping us find the best source for kitchen cabinets. He and his team designed and installed a great new kitchen, complete with a ceramic tile backsplash, new plumbing, and partially customized cabinets. He also made useful suggestions and modifications with an eye to our needs. He supervised the installation of composite counter tops and sink and when the new sink developed flaws, he negotiated with the supplier and the manufacturer to insure that repairs were made promptly and completely. By the way, Mr. Potter and crew work very amiably with the painters. Next came windows... we live in a cold climate and several windows had obvious seal failure. We determined to replace all windows and Mr. Potter and his team undertook that job. Once again he was instrumental in locating the best quality replacements at a reasonable price. By now we feel we know the men who work on various jobs and enjoy having them in our home. They are all very competent, careful, polite, friendly, and never leave a mess. The work has continued. At present Mr. Potter is installing a new ceiling fixture in the dining room, including rewiring. Further work includes more wood flooring on the bedroom (3rd) level of our home, walls that need to be repaired, replacement of a support beam on the front steps, and remodeling a bookcase/cabinet installation in the living room to create a television/fireplace setting. Mr. Potter is already at work scouting prices and materials. I'm sure I'm missing some of the chores that he undertook over the past months. He has been simply invaluable to us as a local resource, and a reliable, professional and extremely competent workman. We would never hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needs competent construction. I contacted him, told him what I was looking to have done, and we agreed on a price. I asked if I could see some of his work & he invited me to his shop, which was a little depressing looking and not very professional, but the plating work looked great so I went ahead. He did some large-scale blasting/priming and chromed a small piece for me. The blasting left a good bit to be desired - he didn't get all the rust off some parts, and left self-adhesive foam on another... didn't even blast it all off! The priming job was poor, barely coating the surfaces he'd blasting and leaving some areas unprotected... the part he chromed wasn't fully polished, and when I asked him why the part wasn't fully polished his response was \"I was afraid I'd burn through the thin wall of the tubing.\" I asked him why he didn't call to tell me this beforehand, and he said he didn't think it was a big deal and didn't know any workarounds - that was as good as it was going to get. He also made me wait three weeks before tackling the task because he couldn't afford to buy the pieces needed to fix his blast booth, even after I offered to buy the parts partially in lieu of payment. He also specified that I write the check in his name vs. the company name \"for tax purposes\"... Unfortunately, he's one of the only games in the region, so for close/quick work I don't have a ton of options."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/vt/shaftsbury/classic-metal-restorations-reviews-2317297.htm"},"position":5},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Matt's Pro Plumbing, LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VT","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Steve S."},"reviewBody":"Matt's Pro Plumbing LLC came to my house on short notice and fixed our tub drain quickly. "I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

FAQs for affordable plumbing projects in Plainfield, VT
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
It’s possible to snake minor drain clogs yourself, provided they sit within a foot or two of the drain itself, but it’s usually best to hire a professional plumber regardless. Even experienced DIYers have a high chance of accidentally pushing the clog further into the drain using a drain snake or another tool, so hiring a plumber is the ideal course of action. A professional plumber can use camera equipment to locate and identify the clog, and remove the entire blockage to fix your issue permanently.
Typically, plumbing repairs cost about $325 per job but can range from $175 to $4,000 or more. Simple fixes, such as a toilet repair, will be less expensive at around $150 to $400. However, if you have a pipe that has burst, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $4,000 or more.
The project that needs to be completed, the size of your home, and the type of plumbing pipes you have can all impact the final cost. External factors such as supply chain issues and shortage of materials all play a part in how much this repair might be.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
