"We were visited by Bob from Vista who did a great job working with us on what needed to be completed and price negotiation. This was certainly a package deal with windows/siding/tile work and masonry all being done to the home. Before the work started we also met with Brian who had some great recommendations on siding style and tile patterns. He mentioned he would have his "A" Team working on the job and overseeing the project. The siding and windows took only two days to complete and the results are outstanding. The "A" Team certainly lived up to it's reputation and had to battle 90+ degree to complete the job. The tile in the breezeway looks terrific as well as the masonry work on the front steps and the new awning. We've had quite a few compliments on the home. As with all large scale projects there are speed bumps along the way, but everything we requested to be modified or adjusted was addressed in a timely manner. Overall, it was excellent work. "

Staining or painting brick isn’t something to do on a whim. Make sure you really want to live with stained brick, because once you apply the stain, it’s permanent. Sure, it will fade over time, but you can’t restore the brick to its natural tones after applying a stain or paint.
Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.
The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.
