"Promised us that they would not damage new paint when installing carpet in two rooms and would be very careful when we questioned their time frame for installation. Contractor recommended waiting for paint to cure. Not only did we have to pay contractor $100 to fix damaged walls, chair rail and floor molding paint, but they bothered the painters so much to help move furniture that the painters complained to us for time lost painting while assisting Jeff and Nathan. Decent price and nice guys but problematic."

"David Route, Williamsburg Home Improvements failed to complete most of the tasks he was hired to perform. Refinishing my hardwood floors prior to my scheduled move in date was one of them. I was so upset that I felt my only option was to put LVF over my hardwood oak floors. The gentleman that came to my home asked why I would ever want to cover my beautiful oak floors. He told me how beautiful they would look after being refinished and that he felt he could help me find someone that could do it on my timeline. Within a few days he put me in touch Mattocks Flooring who did an amazing job. I will use Empire flooring again and appreciated their help completing my floors."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Carpet is most often affixed to the floor by tacks in tack strips rather than nailed or glued directly to the subfloor. The tack strips are nailed to wood subfloors. Even if you want to install carpet over concrete, you’ll adhere the tack strips to the concrete with masonry nails or a liquid adhesive.

Carpet installers use furniture sliders or blankets to protect your furniture during the installation process. They handle each piece with care to minimize the risk of damage. Additionally, they may employ techniques such as lifting and shifting furniture rather than dragging it across the floor to prevent scratches or other marks. If you have particularly delicate or heavy items that need to be moved, discuss special handling with the installers beforehand.

Sheet vinyl is the cheapest DIY flooring, depending on the brand, style, and quality you choose. Not only is it one of the most affordable flooring products on the market, but it is also easy for most homeowners to install, as it only requires cutting, trimming, and gluing down to the existing floor surface. Some sheet vinyl manufacturers make a loose-lay sheet vinyl flooring that does not even need to be glued.

Carpet squares, tile stickers, painting or stenciling existing tile floors, and painting existing concrete flooring are also affordable options for DIY flooring.

The first step in budgeting for carpet is to determine the amount of carpet you need and the type of carpet you want. You might be tempted to opt for the least expensive option if you have a limited budget, but a low-quality carpet won’t last as long as a high-quality one. When accounting for future carpet repair costs, it makes sense to buy the best-quality carpet you can afford.

Carpet tiles come with a preexisting adhesive backing, which means installing them is as simple as peeling off the paper and sticking them down where they need to go. In other words, no. You won’t need to purchase any separate glue to get your carpet squares situated. It’s already built into the carpet tile itself.
