"The masonry on our front porch was crumbling, and the stones in our back-yard patio were becoming uneven. Horizon Landscaping Designs made both look brand new again! They were prompt, professional, and stuck with the original estimate. I'd definitely hire them again!"

"JP Landscaping wowed me from the minute they started work until the time they finished. I have truly never worked with a better contractor and crew than this group. We hired them to help correct a drainage issue on the side of our back yard that was allowing water flow toward our home during strong storms. Jose met with us and determined a plan to add a wall to hold the water and push toward the drainage system they added so that water would flow to the road and not toward our house. It turned out to be beautiful and functional! He has the hardest working and most professional crew!"

"We had some trouble scheduling this service- they decided their schedule very last minute and communication about weather and re-scheduling proved difficult. However, once the crew showed up, they really blew us away. Our yard had once been really beautifully landscaped but it changed owners and was left to become really overgrown with weeds and ivy. My husband and I both work full time and struggled to get it under control when we moved in and after two summers and non-stop weeding (which didn't really work anyway), we decided to get some help. They came in and not only pulled the weeds but they dug up and removed tons of ivy, hauled out old branches and bricks and stones, and took out all the existing leaves and debris out of all of the planting beds. When we got back, there was just nice clean dirt where a weedy nightmare has once been. I really can't believe they were able to do so much in one day and for a really reasonable price. It let us get a nice blank slate and our yard is so much more manageable now."

"Very easy to work with. Great customer service. My yard looked like a muddy war zone. Mr Garcia gave me a fair price. Showed up on time with all the tools and sod that was needed. My yard looks good again. I wish I could afford the whole front yard to be sodded. Good people and very glad I found them. Will use this company again."

"We are really pleased with how easy it was to work with a Jeff and his team. He was on time to see our yard and front stairs, discussed the various potential options with me in depth, and provided an written quote with a detailed description of the agreed upon plan. Jeff’s team was out on some of the hottest days of the summer and worked hard. They completed all the planned elements - demo stairs, remove existing rotten wood retaining wall, followed by pouring new stairs, resurfacing the top landing, building a new retaining wall and regrading the front yard to that wall. The guys also made adjustments to accommodate our new sump pump line (which didn’t end up where basement guys indicated....). Our yard looks great and I sat in my car to watch the first big rain run away from the house. The steps are fantastic - we needed an extra step added to adjust for 50 years of settling and poor design at construction. I was really impressed with the effort the guys put into ensuring the forms were level and the concrete has a finished surface. We’ve dealt with a lot house maintenance drama this year and Jeff and his team were by far the best company we’ve dealt with. My neighbors also noticed how hard the team worked and complemented them and the results - it looks so much better than many of the other stair repairs in the development."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The most important thing to put under a rock garden is the appropriate soil. The specific soil needed will depend on the type of plants you’re growing as well as the environment you live in. You can also put non-woven or woven fabric under the rocks to add to the garden's structural stability.

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

You may need to lay sod on the areas you dug up once you get the okay from the contractor. It will take about 30 to 45 days for the sod to take root. Consult a local sod installer to get an accurate estimate of the timeline of your specific yard-enhancement project.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

Plant privet hedges at least 1 foot apart in a trench about 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It’s important to space privet hedges relatively far apart due to how quickly they grow to significant sizes and heights. You don’t want to crowd privet plants, or they could overcrowd each other, causing unwanted damage.
