"At a critical time in the home-buying process, Aaron Coulter efficiently and effectively provided his opinion and advice on a mold condition which existed on the basement floor. His professional knowledge and guidance really helped our family address the stressful mold remediation matter. Thank you, Aaron, and Iâ d give 10 stars if I could!"

"Thoroughly professional. Only did the work that was necessary. Did the work within the budget initially quoted and on time. The thing that I really found helpful was that they did all the work necessary to remediate the mold, repair the leak and return the house to an its original state (dry wall, Painting, ETC.)"

"Since this work is technical and specialized, I cannot judge work quality and value for money, but the overall experience was very positive. They came on time, were pleasant and efficient, and inspired confidence in their ability to do a proper job. They were totally professional. They called to give me the results as soon as they were available, with an emailed written report a few days later. I chose this firm to test for asbestos in a ceiling because they do only testing, not the remediation work should the result be positive."

On The Nose Mold Detection, LLC provides mold inspection services for residential and commercial facilities utilizing a certified Mold Dog named Shotzy and his handler-inspector Pam Ward. We are located in Northern Virginia and are available to perform inspections for anyone, at any location needing our services. Our mission is to help you make your environment safe and healthy.\n\nWhy is a mold inspection using a dog superior to a traditional inspection? Just as a bomb dog protects life, health and property, being the most efficient and accurate tool currently available for pinpointing the hidden location of a bomb, so too with a mold dog. On The Nose Mold Detection LLC provides all the normal mold inspection services with the added value of utilizing the science of scent discrimination to precisely pinpoint the location of hidden mold. \n\nQuestion: Why would you tear out the whole room to find mold located under the window sill on one wall? \n\nAnswer: Traditional inspection methods do not provide the detailed accuracy to tell you exactly where the mold is growing. A certified mold detection dog does! \n

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

If you have mold under your vinyl flooring, it’s recommended that you have it ripped out and start fresh. Mold isn’t something to take lightly and should involve a visit from a professional who can both test and identify the mold. If you’re determined to remedy it yourself, wear all the proper protective equipment—eye goggles, a high N-rated mask, and long, disposable gloves.

If the smell is closer to mildew or rotten eggs, the issue is probably mold or bacteria buildup in the machine or its drainage system. Clean your washing machine thoroughly, paying close attention to the rubber door gasket, as it can harbor odor-causing residue. Some machines have lint or debris filters that should also be checked and cleaned according to the user manual's instructions. Be sure to leave the machine's door or lid open after each use, as this allows for better air circulation and helps prevent mold growth.

Mold grows in areas with humidity levels above 60%, but ideal conditions for mold growth occur when humidity is between 70% and 90%, especially in poorly ventilated areas. To prevent mold growth, aim to maintain indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50% using dehumidifiers, proper ventilation, and temperature control. Regularly check your home's humidity with a hygrometer to help you monitor and avoid conditions conducive to mold.

Water damage always poses a primary risk of mold and mildew, but growth is not guaranteed. Whether mold develops depends on several factors, including the severity of the water damage and how quickly the area is addressed. To prevent mold, you must act fast—ideally within the first 24 hours. The process involves cleaning up all standing water and thoroughly drying the affected area. If the damage is extensive, the cleanup was delayed, or you suspect mold might be present, it is safest to assume it has grown and contact a professional mold inspector or removal expert to assess the situation.

Wood tables are susceptible to mold growth, especially if they have been water-damaged. In fact, anything made of wood in your home—from tables and chairs to cabinets and floors—can grow mold since wood is both an organic material and a porous one. Major flooding and water damage are likely candidates for mold growing on your wood table, but it can also happen simply if the wood table is in a humid environment.

You can kill the mold with a proprietary cleaner, or simply a diluted bleach or even cleaning vinegar or dish soap. Always wear gloves, protective eyewear, and a face mask when dealing with mold.
