"Quality Remodeling is exactly that, quality. Matt the estimator came to my house and provided us a price detailing everything we said we wanted done. It wasn't the lowest price, but very fair. There was no high-pressure sales tactics, no one year, one month, and today's pricing. Everything was explained up front. Our project manager was great, keeping us informed at every step. The installation team was clean and excellent asking us any questions we had concerning grab rail placement. The bath was transformed into a much more friendly environment with a fiberglass tub enclosure replaced with a beautiful and functional walk-in shower. I highly recommend Quality Remodeling for the quality of their work and customer service. They provide great value for the money."

"Mr. FIX IT has a great customer service team that are very helpful and friendly. They keep you informed every step along the way! The installation team of Kevin and Eddie were very professional and possessed ultimate knowledge of their task. They installed a new "Jacuzzi Bath" converting my 40 year old bathtub/shower combination into a beautiful and modern walk in shower! It looks fantastic! I will say that the conversion was not cheap, but quality materials and workmanship never is! I highly recommend "MR. FIX IT" and would not hesitate to use their services in the future! "Daniel R. and Fernando B. did a â tub to showerâ conversion for us and they were awesome. They were very professional, friendly, arrived on the early end of the time range we were given, stuck to the task at hand and were out by early afternoon. They left everything as clean as they found it (maybe cleaner?). I am happy with the new shower - canâ t wait to use it! There was one slight hiccup with a plumbing issue and Daniel arranged for someone to come tomorrow to check that out. Once that is resolved , we are good to go! So nice to be rid of the old stained fiberglass tub/shower comboâ ¦. Thanks, West Shore Home!"

"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"They have not yet completed our project, but thus far Matt and Mike have been very attentive to our every need. Bath Planet was not the cheapest quote, nor the most expensive we received, but they did fit our needs perfectly. Matt has gone above and beyond to get me exactly what I want for our custom shower (it's really big) and has made sure to be in constant contact as it's taking a bit to get the materials (it's a custom job and I told him from the start we weren't in a great hurry to complete it). Only reason for less than a 5 star review at this point is the project is not yet complete. Once it is, I plan to revise this review."

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

Whether you should buy a shower stall or build a shower depends on your needs, budget, and overall shower design preferences. Prefabricated shower stalls are less expensive to buy and install than custom showers, but they come in limited styles, colors, and sizes. If you have a unique or specific design in mind or special requirements like accessibility features, hire a professional shower contractor. Custom showers installed by a pro can also last longer than prefabricated shower stalls.

Most modern showers have a prefabricated base made from fiberglass or plastic, such as acrylic or polyurethane. Nonetheless, concrete mortar is still the traditional, go-to base for a custom walk-in shower.

You’ll need to add a waterproofing liner or membrane between the layers of mortar to keep moisture out. From there, you can top it with whatever type of tile you like to create a spa-like custom look. Be sure to include these considerations in your budget for the cost of a walk-in shower.

Install shower grab bars around the waist level or wherever it’s most comfortable to grab inside the shower. If multiple people will be using the grab bar, install it in a location that works best for everyone. You’ll also want to install a vertical grab bar close to your shower’s entrance to help you get in and out.

Signs that your shower valve has gone bad include a variety of issues with water flow and temperature. Common symptoms are low water pressure, inconsistent water temperature, and dripping or leaking from the handle or showerhead when the water is off. You might also notice that the knob is difficult to turn or won't turn at all. Another key indicator of a bad diverter valve is water coming from both the tub spout and the showerhead simultaneously, or being unable to switch the water flow between the two fixtures. In advanced cases, the water may not turn on at all. These are all signs that the valve may need to be replaced.

Per the International Code Council, walk-in shower floors should have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot (or a 2% slope) towards the drain. The slope should be no steeper than 1/2-inch per foot (or a 4% slope). This helps safely direct water into the drain rather than all over your bathroom.
