"If you need a door repaired, hire Dexter. He was absolutely professional from start to finish, incredibly humble, and his pricing was more than fair. He diagnosed the issue quickly and fixed it right the first time without trying to upsell me on anything unnecessary. Honest, high-quality work is hard to come by—I will definitely be calling him again if I need anything else."

"Retired contractor here; chatted with a half-dozen companies about re-screening our 20-year old 2nd storey back porch and John w/Presto Screens was the only one that didn't list all the reasons he couldn't do what I asked. Dude is one hard working fellow and does excellent work. Very fair pricing and good communication. Highly recommended."

"So, Andersen screens are tough to work with because of their proprietary construction components - it's almost as if they want you to buy replacement screen frames instead of repairing/replacing damaged screening. In any event, Vivid Screens has worked diligently with me to get our damaged Andersen screens repaired correctly. Good, dependable service."

"They were very responsive and flexible in looking over the assignment, which entailed a number of handyman chores, such as repairing a garage door opener, fixing a couple of toilets, installing some plugs and switches, hanging a chandelier (from four stories up), and the like. The crew was professional and the quality of their work was excellent. I took off a star for "value for money" because I would say they're expensive, but the quality of work commanded some premium. Overall, I would use them again and recommend them to neighbors."

Screen Repair questions, answered by experts

Most standard windows can accommodate solar screens, but specialty shapes or non-standard frames may require custom solutions. It’s important to consult with a professional to ensure compatibility and proper fit for unique window designs. Arched, bay, and fabricated windows often need fabricated screens, which can increase costs and lead time.

The screen material you choose depends on your needs. Here are some differences to consider:

  • Fiberglass is the least expensive but needs replacing more often.

  • Aluminum suits almost any job and doesn’t stretch as easily as fiberglass.

  • Pet-resistant screens are more expensive than fiberglass or aluminum, but they’re also wind and weather-resistant.

  • Metal screens, like stainless steel, are the most expensive material for rescreening your porch or sunroom. However, they last for years and are golf ball-resistant.

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

Solar screens are low-maintenance but benefit from occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washing, as these can damage the mesh. Inspect screens annually for tears or loose frames to maintain performance. In dusty or coastal areas, more frequent cleaning may be necessary to prevent buildup.

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.
