"The electrician, Chris, arrived within the time frame provided when the appointment was made. He introduced himself, then gathered the necessary tools from his truck.  He was very efficient, professional, courteous and personable.  He took all used parts with him and ensured furniture that was moved to gain access was restored to its original location.

The entire experience was very positive - from making the appointment with the owner of the company through the installation of the replacement parts.  I will definitely use Go Green Electric for all future electrical needs and encourage others to give them a try.  It was evident from my conversations with the owner that this company truly emphasizes customer satisfaction."

"Fresh Start Electrical does excellent work, with extraordinary customer service. They were kind and very respectful to my husband and myself and our home. They made sure that we knew how to use our new device they installed before they left. They also took care to leave our house immaculate when they left. I highly recommend them, and will be calling them again for future projects. We're very happy that we hired Fresh Start Electrical!"

"I called for a price quote and got that over the phone.  It was resonable so I set the date for installation.  This was great since they were able to do work on my schedule.  Dustin arrived on time with a helper (sorry don't remember his name).  They worked quickly even though a trip had to be made for a new breaker.  Work and attitude very professional.  My electrial panel for the generator connection is located in the garage, not the cleanest of places but these guys left it in better condition than it was before they arrived!  My only negative comment would be that Dustin was to email me my offical receipt which I still do not have at this time.  He did hand write one for me and this would never stop me from using this company again.

"This company is awesome. A person contacted me to inquire about the job and he was very professional. He gave me a quote and was able to get someone to come out to install the lighting fixture the next day. However, someone was close in the area where he was able to be at my house to install it within 20 minutes of me initially calling. The person that installed the light was very professional and quick. I will definitely be using this company again for my electrical needs."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In many cases, yes. There are models called dual-fuel generators and fuel switches, but only between certain types of fuel. For example, with the right setup you can convert a generator from natural gas to propane. Some allow switching between diesel and gasoline. There are even tri-fuel generators available in some cases, which adds a large layer of security if you are worried about fuel availability in times of crisis. Always check your generator capabilities and manual instructions before trying to switch fuels. Some generators can use another fuel but may need a fuel conversion kit to prep them first.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Generators run on a variety of fuel types, ranging from natural gas to solar power. Keep in mind that fuel costs varying by type:

  • Natural gas: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Liquid propane: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Diesel: $3,000–$20,000 per year

  • Gasoline: $500–$3,000 per year

  • Solar generator: $2,000–$25,000 per unit

  • Battery backup: $10,000–$25,000 per unit

These advanced generators use a key fob or a smartphone app to remotely start, which is ideal for getting power back on immediately without venturing outside. This feature is more common on whole home generators, but you may be able to find it on large portable generators, too.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.
