Small jobs welcome

"I recently had my mudroom remodeled and the transformation is incredible. He removed the old closet doors, added beautiful casing and shelving, installed new flooring, painted the entire room, and put in a new interior door. The space is now clean, functional, and looks amazing. He also did extensive work outside, including cleaning up my flower beds, cutting down trees, trimming my crape myrtles, and removing old pavers. My yard looks better than it has in a long time. He was professional, dependable, and clearly takes pride in his work. Cleans everything up when he is done. Everything was done with great attention to detail. I highly recommend him and will definitely be using him again."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, continuing to flush a clogged toilet is not likely to break up the clog. Instead, it will continue to put pressure on the clog while filling the bowl with more water, which can potentially cause the toilet to overflow—leading to an even bigger mess. Rather than repeatedly flushing, use a toilet plunger or plumber’s snake to dislodge the clog.

Common drain issues include slow-running drains, whether in a sink or shower, clogged drains, a bad smell, and water backing up into a sink, shower, or bathtub. Causes range from hair, grease, roots, or toilet paper clogging the drainpipes to flooding outside the home, which prevents sewer lines from draining properly.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

You can pour hot water down your gutter drain to melt ice and keep ice dams from forming. If the problems persist, consider investing in heat cables to run in your gutters. Heat cables can adjust based on the surrounding temperature to keep ice thawed.

The most common cause of a clogged sump pump is natural debris buildup. As water enters the sump pit, it can carry small pieces of debris that build up over time, or the debris can get caught in the filter. If you forget to cover the pit after cleaning the sump pump and pit, debris can also collect in the pit. Corrosion on the metal discharge pipe can also clog the pump. Additionally, if your pipes freeze, it can prevent water from draining properly and cause a clog.
