"The installers were easy to work with and they did a great job. Our skylights look and work perfectly. This is very good company to deal with. They went out of their way to install the skylights that were of the best quality. The price was reasonable and working out the terms wasn't a problem."

"Over the years Shenandoah Home Improvements has put a new roof on our house and they have also replaced all our windows. Everything has always been prompt and professional. Their prices were very fair. The workers worked hard and were polite and courteous. Everyone has been great to deal with. Since then my Mother and both sisters have hired Shenandoah for roof replacements and vinyl siding. I am glad that we went with them and would highly recommend them to anyone who is considering a roof replacement or replacing their windows."

"Chris came out to the property on or about the 22nd of March.  After that I never heard back from him.  So, I sent an email through his website on  4-11-12 advising I never heard back from him and asked whether or not he was interested in the work.   (see below)

I received an email back stating "Sent last week. Let me know if you can't find in inbox or spam folder."

I sent an email to him again and said I had not received anything, and also said I dont get much spam because I have a Cox account. He sent another email saying "Please give me a call when you can. I'll give the information over the phone. I was wondering why you did not respond to my email. Now I know. You never received them."

I responded with another email asking for him to send me another copy via email. I advised him I have an illness and would need to see it on paper and not by phone because I would not remember things accurately.

After that I cannot tell you what happened. I can only show the succession of emails as follows. I did not see these until the 13th when I went online to check email again to see if the estimate was sent to me per my request. This is what I found.

email response 1; "Here"
email response 2; "Sorry about that last email. Please give me a call at 5403148539"
email response 3; "Mr. Buesing. Please call me when you can. 540-314-8539 Thank you,
email response 4; "Give me a call when you can. Christopher 540-314-8539"

Please note, I did try to call him and his voice mailbox was full. I sent him another email and told him it was full so I could not leave any information.

I received another email the next day. "Can you send me you phone number? I'll call you".

This didn't make any sense because my email shows he received my name and information through his website. It recorded it and it says " wrote: ">[email protected]> wrote:  a form has been submitted on April 11, 2012, via: http://aaahandymanservice.com/contact-us/ [my IP addess]

(I removed my personal information so the world does not have my phone number)

He was a nice guy but I don't have a clue why business has to happen like this above. Could he not have sent the estimate via old fashion USPS? As of 4-14-12 1430 hrs I have not heard from him.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on skylight size, roof type, and additional features like blinds or tinting.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.
