"Punctual and quick. My yard was a mess and Jimmy had it looking prestine in 2 days flat. Cleaned up all the weeds and overgrowth, landscaped and mulched, even got our garden titled and ready for planting. I'm amazed at what a difference he made in our yard in such a short amount of time. He went over and beyond and even hauled away some old stuff for us. Very impressed and highly recommend American Vets Lawn Care!"

Customers say: True professional

"Father Paver did a highly professional and superb job build an in-ground firepit and patio for my yard. They were very meticulous to meet my specifications and expectations and it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend them, and I intend on using them in the new year for follow-on work in other parts of my property."

"Trevor was extremely knowledgable, polite, and punctual. He put in some white azalea and orange barbary bushes for me in an area where I had some unsightly golden mops removed. He had done the research to get me the best fit, and he did a great job educating me on their care. 5 gold stars"

Small jobs welcome

"Angie's List turned up Robin's Cleaning Service as a possible contractor for carpet cleaning. We went with her since she's independent and relatively local (Gretna). She came today, worked hard for over two hours to clean our Master BR and closet, lower staircase and roughly 1/4 of the lower living area, and did a lovely, attentive and thorough job for $225. Very pleasant--does carpets and other cleaning, painting, landscaping, mowing and pressure washing between morning and evening school bus driving for Gretna public schools (all three levels). Just a really sweet lady whom we enjoyed getting to know. If you have odd jobs, give her a chance. Robin Hall, 434-728-0529, is highly recommended! Landscaping questions, answered by experts

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

Yes, landscaping costs are generally a worthwhile investment that can increase your property value. Landscaping can boost your home's value by up to 30% by improving its curb appeal, which can help it sell faster and for a higher price. Specific projects have a high return on investment (ROI); for example, revamping a front walkway can offer a 100% ROI, while a pristine, well-manicured lawn can deliver an impressive 217% ROI. In addition to the financial returns, you also get to enjoy the improvements, especially with features like an outdoor living area.

The best place to plant a rose bush is where it will be happiest. Growing roses is difficult if the location varies much from what the plants like. Choose a location that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight during the growing season but not much more than that in hot-climate locations. If such a spot doesn't exist in your yard, consider planting your rose in a movable container to take advantage of portability.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.
