I can do most basic tasks around the house, to the exclusion of drywall, pluming, and electric. On top of this I can do landscaping, with a specialty in heavy brush removal, pruning, and tree work, all without causing noise complaints from neighbors. If you need someone to get the job done quiet, I'm your guy.

I remember when a nice lady in Miami, FL asked me if I wanted to earn some extra money painting the exterior of her house in Coral Gables, FL. I then painted inside and other properties she had in the neighborhood and Miami Dade. I did this without any painting experience. I moved to Virginia in 2001 to work with Construction Co. in Harrisonburg, VA and in 2008 I worked with great foreign painters, got more experience, and started my business. Since then I work anywhere around a radius of 75+ miles in Staunton VA. I specialize in Interior and Exterior Paint, Staining Wood, Pressure Washing, Window Grazing, Wallpaper Removal, Removing Stains, Removing Old Paint, Cabinet Resurfacing, Furniture Repainting, Plaster or Drywall Repair, etc. I worked on historic houses, new houses, and commercial buildings. After 2019 in these challenging times, I decided to take extreme safety measures to make sure that your house is safe from Covid-19. Anybody can browse some of my work on Google or Instagram.

Furniture Reupholstery questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

Furniture made from materials resistant to sun fading includes metals like aluminum, stainless steel, and wrought iron, as well as certain synthetic materials like polyethylene (commonly used in outdoor wicker furniture) and resin-based products. Glass tables and accents are also sun resistant. These materials inherently withstand UV rays and are less prone to fading or discoloration. Furniture with UV-resistant coatings or finishes, such as powder-coated metal or UV-protected plastics, offers enhanced protection against sun-induced fading.

It can be cheaper to reupholster a chair or other piece of furniture than to buy a new one, depending on how much it costs to replace. If the chair or couch originally cost less than $300, then reupholstery may not be the cheapest option. However, if the chair is expensive, vintage, or discontinued, reupholstery can be the more affordable option. This is especially true if the piece of furniture is out-of-production or holds sentimental value.

Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.

Reupholstering is often worthwhile for high-quality, antique, or sentimental couches, especially if the frame is sturdy. It can cost less than buying a comparable new piece and allows for customization, but may not be cost-effective for low-end furniture.
