"Josue and his company did a wonderful job weeding, mulching, mowing and weedeating around our backyard fence. Our yard was pretty much out of control and his company wrangled it back and it looks amazing. He came right away to give an estimate and worked us in to his schedule within a few days. We’ve arranged for him to come on a regular schedule to keep everything in check."

"JB Lawncare did a wonderful job trimming and shaping my 25 foot Nellie Steven’s holly tree that grows at the front corner of my house. The upper part of the tree hadn’t been trimmed in years and it’s branches were getting too close to the house. JB and his assistant did exactly what I wanted, shortened the tree and shaped it appropriately so that it’s ready for the new Spring growth to fill it out. He is fairly new at running his business, is reasonably priced, and a good worker. I definitely recommend him for residential landscaping needs."

"I hired Appalahian to mow and maintain my lawn for the summer. They showed up once a week, I did not have to call and remind them. I paid in advance through PayPal. My lawn looked great all summer long. And if i needed any other miscellaneous handyman stuff done, he was there to take care of it. Definitely reliable and trustworthy."

"I think they treated the wrong lawn. The note they sent me via text message referenced trees and shrubs in my yard, I have none. They also did not leave a yard marker showing they had been there. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star review."

"Rich was awesome to work with, I found him through a referral. He framed in an unfinished room in my basement and several closets. Rich was very easy to work with and went out of his way to ensure things were the way I wanted them! He help me coordinate with an electrician and painter, and kept communicating throughout the process. Two thumbs up for Flanagan Construction!"

"Peter arrived at agreed on time, went over the three areas (remove brushy weeds, weedeat, clean weeds from around propane tank and clean up residue.) It took 3 hours on a hot humid day using cuutters for thumb thick brush and a tarp to collect cuttings. He did it well and even picked up trash blown out of passing vehicles without being asked or told to do so. I plan on using him again as I am 77 and not able to do this type of yardwork any more."

Lawns FAQs, answered by experts

Services include regular garbage pickup, recycling, and bulk waste disposal options.

Unless it’s rubber or you need to prune suckers and remove weeds, you shouldn’t need to get rid of the old mulch around your tree. Simply push old mulch a few inches away from the trunk of your tree and then top it off with enough fresh mulch to reach 3 to 4 inches in height.

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.

Don’t pick up dirt after aerating. Even though it's tempting because soil cores are incredibly unsightly, these cores and the dirt they leave behind are ecologically important. This is what keeps your grass looking beautiful and growing healthily. The soil cores need two to three weeks to decompose, but you can swat them with a rake if their natural shape bothers you.

No, it’s not necessary to remove all the leaves from your lawn—in fact, leaving some behind can be beneficial. While it's important to clear thick layers of leaves that can smother your grass, leaving a light scattering of leaves can help feed your soil while also providing safe winter habitat for pollinators like bumble bees. Leftover leaves will eventually break down, enriching the soil and promoting healthy lawn growth.
