"Mr. Broadwater has remodeled 2 bathrooms, our laundry room, installed a double-oven in my kitchen, and added an amazing kitchen nook with 3 large garden windows. He worked closely with us to understand our visions then made them all realities. We love his work and will hire him when we identify the next project!"

I am a one man band so to speak. "We are pleased to recommend Triangle Reconstruction with our highest praise. It seems too simple to say that they do what they said they’d do, but that’s exactly what happened. Our home is around 50 years old. Ours was a large job - around a month and $30,000. We had Triangle Reconstruction come in after another moisture company provided mold remediation and a humidifier. I wish we’d contacted TR to start with. We provided TR with a structural engineering report. They created a plan to exactly meet all of engineer’s concerns. TR used temporary supports and replaced seal plates, girders, and joists for over half of our home. In addition, they poured footers and built new columns. They also added a few additional girders to firm up our floors. They removed and replaced our insulation. They sealed our porch and crawl space, replaced our vapor barrier, and installed a moisture meter. They wrapped our electrical cords and hung them. The people at TR are remarkable. A+++++"

"From the very beginning, Upgrade Remodeling was incredible for their contacting me fast, having a Project Manager available all the time for questions, scheduling the actual work to be done, a contact between me and the installers...I recommend Upgrade Remodeling to everyone. And the walk-in shower walls, floor, grab bars, and seat are beautiful, too!"

"Destiny Builder is a first class, responsive, professional group. Guillermo ensured that our bathroom project was done quickly and the craftsmanship was excellent! Our installer worked diligently and knew how to improvise when parts were missing from the shower door box. We will hire them for our kitchen remodel next. Fantastic!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

If you’re not sure which method of raising the ceiling is best for you, here are a couple of considerations to help you make that decision. A professional ceiling company will be able to help you determine the best option for your home.

  • How long you are planning to live there: although raising the basement ceiling will increase the value of your home, if you’re planning to sell the house, then go for raising the house.

  • The condition of the foundation: to lower the floors, your foundation has to be intact whereas raising the house will allow you to restore the damaged foundation.

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.

Kitchens and bathrooms are typically the most expensive rooms to renovate. The high cost is due to several factors, including expensive appliances like ranges, hoods, and refrigerators, as well as costly fixtures. The 'bones' of the room, such as electrical and plumbing, are also expensive to move or replace. Because of the vast amount of prep work, finishing, and specialized labor involved in a relatively small footprint, these projects can cost double or more than a living space remodel. Even when trying to renovate on a budget, kitchens and bathrooms will likely carry a hefty price tag.

When considering finishing your basement, take into account a few pros and cons:

Pros

  • Can increase the value of your home

  • Separate space from the rest of the house

  • Customize and personalize the basement to suit your needs and style

  • Increase the amount of living space in your home

Cons

  • May not regain enough value to cover the cost of finishing

  • Lack of natural light if it’s below ground level

  • Moisture or flooding can cause costly damage

  • Installing plumbing and electrical can be messy and costly
