"This company has been doing work for me for over three years. No job is too big or too small. They have worked on plumbing, fencing, decking, painting, lighting, yard work (grass, mulch, trees, shrubs), pool, brick, garage door replacement, and so much more. I trust this company so much so that I can even give them full access to my home when I am not there! They always clean up and always arrive on schedule. The price is the best in the area by far and the work is always guaranteed, although I have never had any issues. Great company with great people."

"Jamie was very friendly at the beginning. I felt his estimate was high but there was a shortage of contractors available at that time (summer of 2021) and in that area, so I went with him. Although he did some of the work himself, his health was not great, so he had a 30+ yr old guy he got from a rehab program to do most of the work, other than the tile and a custom shelf. The tile work was done by a stone mason. His sons and some of their friends, who are minors, did the custom shelf and general labor (carrying supplies and clean-up). The rehab guy ended up quitting before the projects were done. I originally hired Jamie to do the main bath in a condo and added another bath when the main was about half done. The work quality was not bad initially, but it became apparent in the details. Apparently he does a lot of bathrooms, but he does not know what I high-end bathroom looks like. There were a lot of issues I brought to his attention and some of them I had to fix myself. Jamie thought I was nit-picking. I paid him $12,000+ to refinish a bathroom, so I felt that I had the right to expect higher quality than what he provided. He had started the second bathroom before the main was finished, so I let him continue until I got tired of the sloppy workmanship and asked him not to come back. He can do a fairly good basic job if your expectations are not high."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

A sunroom will add more value to your home than a deck, but with a much higher up-front cost. Depending on its construction and function, a sunroom may be counted as additional living space, while a deck is strictly an outdoor feature. Both will increase your home’s value, but the sunroom will have a much bigger effect.
