"Guillermo and his team did a great job staining our fence. They were timely and he took the time answering all my questions. Sent pictures and videos of his past work for us to view prior to signing the bid."

"Billy and his crew did an incredible job. I needed help painting over an extremely dark color - I was worried about the white not being able to cover the dark color. The crew had to do three coats, but it looks amazing and you would never know the walls use to be very dark. I am very happy with the work they did! Thank you!"

Small jobs welcome

"I called David Trail because my roof was leaking into the kitchen and more rain was on the way. He was the first contractor to show up. After walking the roof, he decided that the problem wasnâ t roofing, it was cracked caulking around the vents. I signed for the repair and his workers did enough to see me through for the next few days. The rain fell, but not in the kitchen. When he came back, I invited him to walk the property and bid on patching and repainting problem areas of the house and walls. The price sounded quite good: Had he seen all the cracks and loose plaster? But they didnâ t just patch and paint. They completely repainted everything. And depending on the work of the day, it was quite a crew. As many as seven energetic, highly skilled young men who, I discovered, were all members of his family. They always worked until sundown, sometimes later. On the last day, they came back after dark to finish the clean-up. In the end, the work was excellent, as was the total price. So I do recommend that you have him out to look over your problem areas. As for me, I have no more problem areas. Itâ s all perfect."

"Don’t look further! Beautiful job on complete upstairs including cabinets and doors. Exceptionally hard workers and are almost artistic in their attention to detail. Met and surpassed our wildest imagination of what we had dreamed of… We are retired and they not only did the job timely but were very conscious of our special needs. If you pick someone else you made a BIG mistake. Bill B"

"Painter1 did a wonderful job on the exterior of my home in Draper. Their price was very reasonable. They do terrific work quickly, with excellent attention to detail. My house looks 20 years younger now. Painter1 will be at the top of my list for any future paint jobs."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

It’s often best to spray on deck sealer. Sprayers can apply sealant more quickly and evenly than rolling while still enabling you to reach tight spaces. When using a sprayer, always use a low-pressure setting at a close distance to ensure an even application. Avoid using sprayers on windy days.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.
