"I can't say enough good about Abraham and his team, but I'll try! Our project: Convert a corner of our yard from mulch and a few plants into a paver patio with a gazebo. Abraham was so helpful, kind, and thoughtful as we discussed the initial project. He was also the only person out of all the bids I got that said they could just build and install the gazebo we had ordered. The others said they'd need to outsource that service for an additional fee. Once we decided to move forward with our paver patio and gazebo, Abraham quickly got us on the schedule. On day 1, we realized we would actually need to install a retaining wall in addition to everything. He talked us through that decision and we decided to keep moving forward. And then I kid you not, they worked *all day long*â quite literally from sunup to sundown. Such impressive dedication to the job. They got most of the pavers down that day, as well as the retaining wall. They came back a couple days later, late afternoon, and moved the sprinklers that had been displaced back into our lawn, then cut and capped all our drip lines that had been in the spot where the patio was installed. They also replaced our downspout drain popup in the lawn that had also needed to be moved, and they replaced as much grass as possible that had been cut out for the patio. And then on day 3, a couple more days later, they built our Purple Leaf gazebo (we bought separately) and installed it, bolting it firmly into the pavers and concrete footing they poured. They worked hard and they worked fast, and I can't overstate how much I appreciate it. They really are landscaping experts, and Abraham has a fantastic eye for design. The best part is that they did all this for easily the best price around. The other bids I got were a few thousand more for the same work, and that was without including the gazebo installation fees. The finished product is an absolute stunning little backyard oasis that we'll enjoy for the rest of this summer and for many summers to come. In short, they worked hard and fast for the best price possible, delivering a high-quality finished product that we love. I would highly recommend AR Custom Landscaping, and we'll definitely work with them again in the future as more yard needs crop up."

"We had an awesome experience working with TMV Concrete! Tali (owner) and his crew were professional and did amazing work. We hired TMV initially for a concrete driveway and we loved their work so we ended up adding a patio and a new wall to our back yard. We absolutely love it and have recommended Tali to many of our friends and families. He was so easy to work with definitely worth every penny invested. Thank you for bringing our vision to life. Will definitely work with TMV again."

Small jobs welcome

"These guys ROCK! They went above and beyond to get my project done in a timely manner. They installed a new sprinkling system, they graded my property and installed sod. Also, they did curbing, fixed my leaning retaining wall & installed gravel! Communication was spot on. My place looks fantastic! Can’t wait to plant stuff next spring. I highly recommend using them and would hire them again."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Installation typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the wall’s size and site conditions.

There are contractors specifically trained in the design and construction of retaining walls. Retaining wall contractors are skilled at dealing with the soil on your property and assessing what kind of drainage should be installed. They will recommend the best materials to use for the project and can handle the processing of permits by local authorities.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.
