"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Clic Homes replaced our 37 year old aluminum siding with a beautiful siding called “smart siding “. Their crews were hard working, kind, and always on time. We could not be more pleased and satisfied with the quality and professionalism that Clic Homes provided. With no hesitation, we would hire them again, and highly recommend them to anyone else."

"Jake Toombs, President of Millcreek Homes is the singularly most impressive professional that I have worked with in forty years. Jake built our custom home on time and on budget. Jake is an impeccable communicator. Jake was very patient with my wife and I as we made innumerable decisions through the build process of our first new home. Jake was 100% transparent on pricing, timing, viability of options requests, etc. Jake referred us to a fabulous architect and we also worked with similarly-qualified support people in choosing every last detail of; cabinets, appliances, floor surfaces, paint choices, windows, hardware, etc., etc.. We received an extremely high-quality custom home that was at least 25-30% less than comparable builders. Moreover, almost three years after our home was completed (July 2021), Jake continues to be available to me for any questions that I have. I STRONGLY recommend Jake Toombs and Millcreek Homes to anyone who wants to have a uniquely positive experience building a new home."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Kent Nickell on a home addition project, and I can confidently say he is the best contractor I’ve ever worked with. Throughout the entire process, Kent was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, making every step smooth and manageable. Living in the home during construction could have been challenging, but Kent and his team maintained an impressive level of cleanliness and respect for my space, which I truly appreciated. As with any construction project, issues inevitably came up, but Kent was always quick to communicate and resolve them with professionalism and care. His commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is unmatched. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and conscientious contractor."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Building a house without blueprints is not advised. It will prevent you from obtaining necessary building permits and meeting building codes and is likely to result in shoddy construction and unsafe living conditions. Detailed blueprints ensure that a house is built to exact specifications and is constructed safely and structurally stable.

It pays to hire a project manager or general contractor when you have a large-scale project that will take over a week to complete, especially when it involves structural changes and multiple subcontractors. This includes hiring a general contractor to build a house, add an extension, or manage other projects that need a building permit.

On average, the cost of a home builder is about $150 per square foot, but that price can range from around $100 to $400 per square foot or more. That puts the typical price range of a standard, 2,000-square-foot house between $200,000 and $800,000. Some factors that affect the price of hiring a home builder include the following:

  • Location of your home and the living cost in the area

  • Type of foundation and framing you choose

  • Quality of the building materials

  • Footprint and layout of the house

  • Number of stories

  • Builder’s experience

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.
