"The project turned out bigger than originally thought, but it looks incredible. The space is easier to use now, the new retaining wall is safer than before & neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. A big fan of the finished product! Will keep Jay Concrete & Construction in mind for my next project, on a different property."

"We had this company extend our fence around the driveway and add a gate, and the whole project turned out great. The team was easy to work with and understood exactly what we were looking for. The extension blends perfectly with the existing fence, and the new gate is solid and works smoothly. It really adds a lot of security and looks great, too. The whole process was straightforward, and they finished on time. We're really happy with the results and would definitely recommend them!"

"Joe came out and discussed what neared to be done to fit me with a new driveway He also had a brochure to show me the kind of gate I would be getting. I had already had three other bids, but I decided to go with Joe and Best Fence. I paid the downpayment and work started the next day! I now have a beautiful gate—I'm getting compliments on it from all the neighbors! I would recommend Joe for any fencing needs and I will more than likely use him again."

"Best experience. Clic Homes does a phenomenal job. I didn’t have to “babysit” the project. The thing I love most is I got honest pricing and recommendations that helped keep within our budget. Project was done on time and as promised. Perfection from start to finish and done by experienced and skilled professionals. You can’t argue with 50 years of excellence."

"These guys were beyond amazing! Because the extra work and expense was a shock to our budget, Bob and Brandon worked diligently to keep the price reasonable and the work quality. They kept us informed every step of the way and always involved us in any decision making that needed to be done. They started their day on time and were here every day they said they would be. The finished project easily exceeds ALL of the expectations we had! As an added bonus, we hired contractors and we finished with new friends!"

"Jeremy came quickly and assured me it was an easy and fast fix and he just needed an additional part he'd pick up in Sandy. He came back, repaired it within 10 minutes and it works great.
BUT.....because I have worked with Earthworks before, they were, of course, my first (my ONLY) call.  Nowhere on Angie's List and never during my conversation with Marissa was I told there was a two-hour minimum (all the other projects they've done were much bigger, so it never came up).  At $65/hour, this 10 minute job cost me$130!  Had I known, I would have looked for a local handyman and that is certainly what I'll do in the future.  And, yes, I did talk with Marissa at Earthworks regarding the bill and it stands as billed.
I'm sorry, guys, you've lost my business.

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

You don’t need a permit for an automatic gate in most cities because it isn’t a structural change to your home, but you need to check. A pro can help you with this and since we don’t recommend installing an automatic gate yourself, you should already be in contact with one, making this a frictionless question. Outside of permit requirements, you need to consider your homeowners association (HOA), as some are against gated homes.

Yes, you can convert manual gates to electric operation. Installing a motor and an opening device from a kit allows you to convert any gate so it can open and close automatically. Be sure to buy the correct type of opener for your gate style. For example, some openers are specific to swinging gates, while others are for sliding gates. Get familiar with your swinging or sliding gate parts before you go shopping to avoid having to return to the store for the correct opener.

When making this decision, three essential factors come into play. For budget-conscious individuals, swing gates are the more economical choice. Despite the possibility of both gate types having similar dimensions, many types of sliding gates demand a more intricate opening mechanism and additional components, requiring electrical work for motors and signaling remotes, resulting in higher installation costs.

Hiring a reliable gate company starts by finding an installer with at least five years of experience in your area. This method will ensure they understand local laws and regulations and are familiar with the permitting process. You can also ask the following questions to ensure a smooth installation:

  • Have you worked with my gate material in the past?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Will you pull the necessary permits for the installation?

  • Do you provide any kind of warranty for the gate’s functionality?

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.
