"I was supposed to have gravel placed in front yard, it never happened until I complained and then his workers brought out twenty dollars worth of gravel and put it randomly, and they left a huge pile of dead leaves in my front yard, did not do the curbing as originally planned and deven lied and said he did it how it was originally planned. I paid too much for what I got and was treated rudely by deven, all his workers were very nice though. The project turned out ok but I have never been treated so rudely and disrespectfully by any contractor so I can’t recommend this business."

You’ll want to avoid simply piling it up in hopes of offering additional benefits to your tree. Volcano mulching is the infamous term for piling way too much mulch against the stem of your tree. This could actually kill your tree or severely harm it, as your tree trunk needs space to breathe without too much moisture.

A light layer of mulch can help protect a tree, retain moisture, and keep the soil healthy. However, it’s important to avoid over-mulching or piling the mulch up around the trunk of a tree, a practice notoriously called “volcano mulching.” That piled mulch can increase the chances of rot and disease on the tree trunk as well as overwhelming the soil, which needs access to a certain amount of air. Topped trees have it hard enough: mulch sparingly while they heal.

First, you’ll need to determine how big of an area you want covered, then divide that by the base surface area of the boulders.
