Small jobs welcome

"Air Duct Cleaners is absolutely the best we have ever used! They did a fantastic job and our home feels even cooler than it did before they cleaned out everything. That has never happened before! Their pricing is very fair and the workers are very professional and explained everything to us very well. Other companies have tried to upsell us but not Air Duct Cleaners. Great company! We highly recommend them!!!"

"Jason H from Humphrey Plumbing Heating and Air came right when he said he would. He installed the new ducting the same day as when he first came to give us a bid. The repairs were done professionally. We would use Humphreys again if we need hvac work done."

"Anton and his crew came out to our home at the end of January to clean our ducts and HVAC system and did a great job. Super professional, friendly, and had a quote that was way lower than other places we called. Will definitely call them again next year to service our system!"

"Promptly confirmed appointment when our a/c died. Work completed the following morning. Fair price. Kind and considerate workers. The pilot went out on our water heater, so we had cold showers the next morning, they must have shut off the gas when replacing the furnace, but it was easy for me to get the pilot lit again."

"We decided to use Superior Water and Air, Inc due to Angie's List recommendations and the fact that they sell HVAC equipment through Costco. We knew that our twenty-year-old air conditioner had problems last summer and needed to be replaced. Since we installed solar panels a couple of years ago, we also wanted to see if we should install a heat pump that could heat our home with solar electricity. In January, Costco had a special in which we could receive 15% of the cost of any HVAC equipment in a Costco Cash Card if we purchased through Costco. So we requested a sales pitch. After reviewing the costs and technical aspects of replacing our air conditioner with a more efficient air conditioner or with a heat pump that would cool during the summer and heat on all but the coldest days, we decided to buy a mid-range heat pump. Superior Water and Air installed the heat pump on a snowy January day, but couldn't test it that day because the weather was too cold. (We have a fairly new natural gas furnace that heats when the heat pump can't heat well enough.) Two months later, Superior Water and Air came back on a March day and discovered that the unit had not been completely installed correctly. So on a later March day, they came back, fixed the faulty installation and tested the heat pump as a heater. The company sent their Service Manager out to our house to oversee the project. They worked all day until 7 PM at night to assure that our heat pump was installed and worked correctly. The Service Manager even called an expert for advice about the installation. Now the heat pump is working well and heating when the temperature is above about 40 degrees F and automatically switching to the furnace when the temperature is below that. Also, when the temperature is higher than 75 degrees F, the heat pump automatically switches to cool the house. We were very pleased with Superior Water and Air and would recommend this company to anyone especially if you want your installation done correctly."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you should hire a professional to carry out services on your HVAC system, as the components are complicated, expensive, and potentially dangerous to work with. However, there are a few things you can do on your own to keep your HVAC system in good condition, including changing your filters every three months, keeping the area around your outdoor condenser clear of debris and plant growth, making sure your or intakes aren’t blocked, and keeping an eye out for increased energy bills, strange noises, and unusual odors related to your equipment.

Most experts recommend getting three to five HVAC quotes from licensed, insured, reputable local heating and cooling companies. Getting multiple detailed HVAC quotes (but not too many) lets you compare the equipment, services, and prices of several contractors without being overwhelmed by options. It can also let you see if one contractor’s prices are much higher or lower than the others and give you a chance to ask for clarification. That way, you can weed out any contractors who aren’t providing quality services or materials and find the company that best meets your budget, quality requirements, and long-term goals.

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.

Set your house temperature between 55 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit while on vacation, depending on the season. If it’s winter, don’t go below 55 degrees. In the summer, the best AC temperature for energy savings is no higher than 85 degrees. You can save anywhere from 10% to 15% on your energy costs by adjusting the temperature while you’re away. If you have a smart thermostat, set up vacation modes for each season. On your way home, turn off vacation mode to allow the home to warm up or cool down before you arrive.

No, a furnace is not the same thing as an AC, or air conditioner, but these are both parts of an HVAC system. They both use air ducts to transport cool or hot air around your home to achieve a comfortable temperature set by your thermostat. An AC runs on electricity, while a furnace can use different fuel sources.
