"I tried everything I could to avoid leaving a bad review. I hired them to xeriscape my parkway. They were going to do everything but the plants. When they were finishing up the job, one of the guys said go get your plants and we’ll come back tomorrow and finish that up with the drip. I got the plants and despite multiple attempts to have them come and finish the job and clean up the mess they left they didn’t show up. We tried calling and texting and they still didn’t show up. They also didn’t use the gravel that I selected and by the time I realized, it was too late. Unfortunately, I cant recommend this company."

SSC is committed to excellence in every aspect of our business. We uphold a standard of integrity bound by fairness, honesty, and personal responsibility. Our distinction is the quality of service we bring to our customers. Accurate knowledge of our trade combined with ability is what makes us true professionals. Above all, we are watchful of our customers interests and make their concerns the basis of our business.

"Homeowners Beware: Poor Workmanship, Misrepresentation, and Costly Damage We hired Shane Christiansen of SSC General Contractors in Sept 2022 for a $49K exterior renovation?concrete patios (upper/lower), stairs, front porch resurfacing, and a cedar fence with gates. What we received was cracked, crumbling, and pitted concrete that looked decades old within months. Gates sagged and required constant adjusting. Concrete defects?cracking, spalling, pitting, and discoloration?appeared quickly. Shane's patch attempts made it worse, leaving mismatched overlays that became icy and hazardous. The front porch had to be redone three times and still failed. Shane misrepresented his experience, admitted a crew member's first time to build a fence, and stopped responding after early repair attempts. The result: a deteriorating project that devalued our home and left us facing full reconstruction, safety hazards, and major financial burden. Photos available to show damages, too large to upload"

"We have had another company mow our lawn for the past 6 years. When we decided to go in a different direction, we were recommended to use Sean. And I have ZERO regrets! They truly take pride in their work. The last crew that we had hired was in and out in 10 mins. We had lots of issues with hitting downspouts and breaking sprinklers, likely because they were rushing. Sean's crew takes time and pride in their work, and it shows! Our yard looks better than ever! His crew is very thorough and makes sure to close our gate (which also was an issue with the previous company). We would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for quality yard work!"

Model Landscape Co. is. local landscaping company focused on quality and customer experience. For over 5 years we have services hundreds of happy customer with out landscape design, new yard installation and landscape remodels. We specialized in irrigation, grading, retaining walls, planting, pavers and hardscaping and all other aspects associated with creating the perfect outdoor living space. Our staff is well skilled, professional and personable, and will work closely with you to create the ideal landscape.

"Do not hire Model for big jobs or any concrete jobs! They’ll drink on the job, mess it up, then keep any excess payments if you fire them. It’s been an absolute nightmare working with these guys. They poured a huge pad of concrete around our pool and completely messed it up. They used permanent chalk to mark their lines, then all the lines were crooked because they waited too long to cut, it cracked immediately, and was already sloughing off in multiple places. The owner Dave accepted blame and told us he’d redo it as many times as needed to get it right. We were hesitant to let them repour it after feedback on a Facebook contractor’s group and from our other contractors on the job who said they dont know what theyre doing, but we (foolishly) trusted Model to make things right, as they swore their concrete guy had never had a pour turn out that bad. So they did tear out and repour, and it’s just as bad as the first time; waited too long to cut, so all lines are crooked, no proper control joints, worked the cream off because they poured on another 100* day with not enough guys, didnt finish the edges right against existing structures, and reused the old, bent drain which is now a safety hazard. When we showed them what happened, they acknowleded it was bad, then responded by telling us they poured almost twice as much concrete as they quoted and wanted more money!! So we fired them, meanwhile our plants and trees had been dying since they planted them on the 1st and still hadnt hooked up the drip line on the 12th. On other contractor’s suggestions, we’ve reported them to DOPL and hired an attorney. Just wanted to prevent anyone else reliving our mistake. They have upwards of $60K of our money in unfinished or unacceptable work that they’re refusing to refund because the owner said it would shutter his business. I know I shouldn’t have given them a second chance but they had a lot of our money in hand and said they hired a better crew. Other issues: they tried to fix our coping that they damaged without telling us, which looked like a 2 year old did it, so they said theyd pay the paver company to fix it. They didnt pay them when they said they would, so we had to pay them for it. They also tore up pool plumbing and tried to fix that without telling us, and our pool guy had to get after them for trying to use the wrong glue. They’ve left rust stains in our pool by throwing whatever they wanted in there. They ran over our irrigation and flooded our neighbor’s yard and we had to shut off our neighborhood’s irrigation for a full day. I’m not joking when I say it’s been a nightmare—because thats not even all of it. Yes, they’re licensed, insured, good reviews for small jobs. This job was just too much for them and they weren’t big enough to say so."

Stone and Gravel questions, answered by experts

In most cases, painting your brick house is a fine idea that can open up new aesthetic possibilities. However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.

Yes, brick should be clean before staining to ensure the best results. Dirt, dust, mold, mildew, and other substances on the brick can prevent the stain from properly adhering to it. Thoroughly cleaning the brick allows the stain to penetrate and bond to the surface more effectively. Cleaning typically involves using a pressure washer or a stiff brush with mild detergent. However, stubborn residue may require a specialized masonry cleaner.

Masonry is an umbrella term that involves adhering individual building materials together using an adhesive, so many different things are considered masonry. These include constructing stone or brick walls or facades, installing stucco siding, installing backsplashes or tile floors, and even installing glass block windows, in some cases. Masonry materials include natural stone, clay bricks, concrete bricks, glass blocks, and tiles.

On average, a well-built brick mailbox can last between 30 and 100 years. The insert that holds mail inside the mailbox may last 15 to 25 years before it needs to be replaced. If a mailbox needs to be fixed due to damage, make sure you know who to hire for brick repair.
