Small jobs welcome

"Ernesto was very pleasant to work with. He did exactly what was needed to repair steps that sunk. His skill set is very versatile. He came exactly when he said he would and finished the job on time. I would not hesitate to have him come do additional work as needed. We are very pleased with the service provided by Motus."

"Not well. Here is a letter I sent after the work was completed followed by their reply. As you will see, they did refund to cost of the unnecessary part and installation with an apology. This, however, should never have happened. 10/5/2016 To Management: I am writing with regards to a breach in the honesty and integrity of your company and its technicians. My wife and I are deeply troubled about this, especially because we found you on Angie’s List and, thereby assumed that we had hired a highly reputable contractor to install our water heater. As is evident on the invoice, attached, the installation occurred on Monday, October 3, 2016, at our residence. To be specific, you technician waited until the end of the installation to inform us that our water pressure was too high and if left at 90 psi, the manufacturer’s warrantee on the unit would be void, and that we would need a pressure regulator valve to keep the warrantee. Upon questioning, he stated that while 90 psi was not particularly dangerous, the water pressure goes up at night and that was why we need the pressure regulator. Further, he explained that he could have measured the pressure on the old heater and told us up front but that he was “by the office” to wait until the end of the installation to reveal such information to customers, presumably to scare them into agreeing to purchasing the regulator. While we find the practice of waiting until the end of the installation to tell customers like ourselves that an expensive part was now needed in order to maintain the warrantee to be highly unethical in itself, we are especially aggrieved to learn that we were lied to on two counts. I called the manufacturer, Rheem, who’s representative, after I explained the incident as I describe it herein, informed me that no such stipulation exists and that as long as a water heater expansion tank was installed (it was) and that it was properly set (we hope so), the warrantee would be in force. The representative advised me to call another plumber who works in Salt Lake City to double check on details, and so I did. He was duly appalled and further informed me of the second lie. Contrary to the statement made by your technician, in fact, the city turns down the water pressure at night. Yesterday, I received a message from Angie’s List, asking for my evaluation of the installation and your company. Before I reply to it, I would like to give you the opportunity to apologize and give us a full refund on the cost of the pressure regulator and its installation. We look forward to your speedy reply. Sincerely, ___________________ 10/11/2016 Mr. xxxxx This is to notify you that your refund of $340 was credited back to your Visa card ending in 1229. Attached, please find a copy of your credit receipt. We apologize that you were not 100% satisfied with our company and hope that in the future that you will give us another chance to prove that we strive for 110% customer satisfaction at all times. We appreciate your contacting our office. The information in your email has been given to our Service Manager for training purposes. "The work was as expected. They had to work a different job in the morning unexpectantly and we received a phone call that they were late. They forgot to cover he downstairs fireplace and let a lot of debris down the chimney. It was vacuumed but there was still some remnants and a lot of dust. Some of the paint on the hearth was left chipped. I have called and am waiting for a call about the chips.

"Rual was outstanding. Knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Once we decided to higher PiBi, they were out to start the job the next day and Maximo was fantastic. He was fast, very precise, and the bathroom floor and shower ended up looking fantastic. My wife is somewhat hard to please and she was very, very happy with the quality of the work. Thanks guys for making this part of a basement remodel that I did not want to do that much better. I would highly recommend PiBi."

Gas Fireplace Repair questions, answered by experts

When thinking about repairing or replacing an oven, considering the “50% rule” will help you the most. This rule states that if your oven is over 50% of the way through its lifespan, or the cost of the repair is more than 50% of the price of a new oven, then replacing it will be more cost-effective in the long run.

However, if you have a newer oven that only requires a simple fix, there’s no need to scrap it altogether. Taking care of the more minor repairs will help you get the most out of your oven for longer.

The best way to tell is if there’s a label, but there are other methods. Gas heaters will have gas lines leading to the unit, with a pilot light near the bottom of the tank (this is sometimes behind a small panel). Electric units often have lights to signal if they’re heating or not and may have electric panels to control the unit. If there is a vent pipe leading from your heater, it’s almost certainly gas-powered.

Professionals maintain appliance performance through regular inspections, cleaning, and addressing minor issues before they escalate. They provide expert advice on usage, implement necessary repairs, and offer tune-ups to maintain efficiency.

Most gas companies and utilities brokers will send a technician to relight a pilot light, but this may demand a service call fee. Contact your local gas company to inquire about available pilot light services. If it’s a no-go, just follow the aforementioned steps and light the manual boiler’s pilot light yourself.

Plumbers start by walking around the property to see if they notice any signs or sounds of a gas leak. They can also use tools like electronic gas detectors and infrared cameras to find the source of leaks. There are also detectors that use laser, thermal, and multi-wavelength imaging. All these devices allow a plumber to scan your home and pinpoint the exact location of a leak.
