"As a widow, I’m routinely looking for some reliable help around the house. Last fall a friend recommended Paul and now I have my guy. He got my gutters cleaned and edged my sidewalks. I wasn’t planning on it, but I even had him help me get my bulbs in. The only reason not to hire him is because he’ll be too busy working at my house!"

"I paid Moon's $39 to come out and do an annual furnace cleaning and inspection. My furnace worked fine but was having trouble firing up on a consistent basis but still worked and kept my condo heated. After calling around and speaking to various companies I had been told my heat sensor just needed to be cleaned. Tyler was supposed to call me first before coming out. He did not call and showed up and wanted to take a look since he was there. He told me I needed a new heat sensor and the part would cost $60 (I have a Lennox furnace). After he left I looked up the heat sensor part and it cost $7.95-13.95 online. Next he tells me my pressure switch also needs to be replaced and charged me $80 for the part. Again I looked up this part for my Lennox furnace and it was $13.95-17.95 online. After replacing the two parts and gouging me on the price my furnace magically stops working. Tyler thinks the mother board needs to be replaced and tells me it would cost $400-600 and if this is the case it would be better to just replace the whole furnace which would cost $2,000+. At this point I knew I was getting worked over and told him it would have been better if I had not called them at all b/c my furnace was working before he showed up and installed the 2 new parts. All of a sudden he gets it working after making an "Adjustment" to my new pressure value. On the way out he asks me if he can put his companies sticker/phone number on my furnace to promote his company. I don't mind paying for someone's time and the $39 seemed fair for the hour worth of work he did but they gouged me on the parts. Let's give Moon's the benefit of the doubt and say the parts cost $30 (worst case scenario) and $39 for Tyler to come out. My bill should have been $70 was $182 and I am not happy. If I had to guess I probably did not need a new heat sensor or pressure switch and should have watched a youtube video on how to clean it myself. Unfortunately now a days everyone is a bunch of crooks and I would not let them into your home. FYI the companies pay to play and you will get hammered with calls as soon as you submit your information by multiple companies. I ripped off Moons service sticker and felt is necessary to warn others who have no clue about furnace/HVAC matters."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Gas, electric, and inductive. Technically speaking, inductive stoves also fall under the electric stove category. However, they use electromagnetic energy to turn the cookware itself into a heat source instead of heating the burner to heat the cookware. As a result, they ensure precise temperature control, which is often the biggest complaint from people switching from gas to electric.

One disadvantage of a wood furnace is that you need a constant supply of wood to run it. Even if you have a good amount of wood on your property (or have another way to get affordable wood), you’ll still need to chop it, store it, and re-fuel your furnace with it to keep your house heated.

The size of your pizza oven will determine the number of bricks necessary to build it. So the bigger your pizza oven, the more fire bricks you’ll need to purchase. Keep in mind that fire bricks cost about $3 each.

In most cases, converting a wood fireplace to a gas fireplace will increase your home value because they burn cleaner, provide more warmth to your living area, and are far more convenient to use. Thanks to gas fireplace inserts that make your fireplace look like it’s full of burning logs, home buyers can still get the aesthetic appeal of a traditional fireplace plus the benefits of a gas fireplace if you make the conversion.

The short answer is yes, as hearths need to extend a certain distance out from the fire. This is usually around at least a foot in front but is often more, closer to two feet even. There is another distance to consider, which is the distance beyond the opening of the fireplace. Each municipality will have different code requirements.
