"I had a great experience with Upfront Drains Heating and Air Conditioning. They provided a free quote for my project. Since I was having a new toilet installed, I was given the type of toilet that I would need. So, I purchased it, and Randy picked it up from Lowes and promptly came to install it. He was always courteous, professional and friendly. He answered my questions and seemed to be quite knowledgeable. Randy was efficient in removing and then installing the new toilet. He hauled away the old fixture and cleaned up after himself. Before he left, I tested the toilet, and it works much better than the previous one. Everything went quite smoothly. I appreciate his knowledge, skill and professionalism. I am very pleased."

"Mike was very specific about the type of cleaning the furnace and blower needed.  He also discovered that the outside unit was frozen.  We had some clogged coils and he was able to determine that the furnace and coils needed a good cleaning.  After going over the details of what he would do, I authorized him to go forward.  Once he completed the job, he told us our air conditioning unit was about 10 years old and has plenty of life in it.  We are nowhere near needing a new one as a previous company had suggested to us.  He recommended having a tune up every other year for maintenance.  I felt I could trust him as soon as he started explaining everything to me and also felt confident he would complete the job in the amount of time he said he would, and that the estimate would be accurate in the end as it was.  I am grateful we found this company and I will definitely put them on my permanent list of service companies!"

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best drain cleaners are biodegradable ones or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Strong, caustic chemicals may seem appealing with promises of unclogging your drain quickly, but liquid drain cleaners can cause damage to your pipes over time. Consider making your own drain cleaner with baking soda and vinegar.

It takes hair about two years to dissolve on its own in the drain without the use of any tool or help. Fortunately, using a drain snake, plunger, or any of the actions mentioned above to dissolve the hair will help get rid of the clog in as little as 15 minutes.

An AC drip pan may stop draining if there’s a clog where the drip pan connects to the drain line. Clogs can form from a lack of cleaning or from rust or corrosion buildup. Cleaning the drip pan at least once per month lowers the chances of debris clogging the drain line.

If you have a sink stopper, it can feel more challenging to clean the drain without removing it, but here are a few simple steps:

  • Pour ½ cup baking soda into the drain using a funnel

  • Pour 1 ½ cups vinegar into the drain

  • Close the sink stopper for 15–20 minutes

  • Open the drain

  • Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain (be cautious as boiling water can damage some types of pipes)

If the drain isn’t unclogged, repeat the process.

There are a couple of things you can do to help prevent your French drain grate from clogging. First, keep yard debris clear so it doesn’t wash into the drain and clog the grate. You can also install a screen or filter over the grate to prevent large pieces of debris from entering the access point.
