"The scheduler did not tell me I had to furnish materials, so wrapping porch columns in vinyl could not be done. I assumed quoted price included materials. It did not. The workman who did the other jobs (repairing stairs, cutting off a door, fixing an ill hanging door and repairing two cabinet hinges) did a good job. However the scheduler corrected the price and quoted $1257 for the work accomplished, which only took 6 hours. That is over $200 an hour. Happy with the work, unhappy with the price."

"It went great! Dave did a great job with installing our French Doors for my home office. The manufacturer shipped the doors with a dent in it, and the hinges were misaligned. Dave scored it up and fixed it, then installed, they look amazing."

"The windows that were in this 1999 home had to have been the cheapest available and I'm not sure how the previous owners stood it!  There was frost inside the windows in the winter, half of them took two people to close because they had to be jiggled whilst pushed and they were so hot in the summer that it was like putting your hand on a hot stove (I promise you that is not an exaggeration!).  Replacing windows was NOT in my budget, but I knew we couldn't go through another winter and definitely not another hot and expensive summer, so after looking on Angies List, I called HomeStar.
Darren came out and carefully measured and then showed me a sample of the Millguard windows I'd be getting.  They are low E, have a lifetime warranty and if a screen ever tears, they replace it.  That's right---they replace it!  You don't take it out and get it repaired---THEY come out with a new screen!  In addition, there are some energy rebates and HomeStar provided all the paperwork (already filled out!) and the envelope to mail it.  I just have to copy the stickers from the windows.  Finally, the price was more than fair, especially considering the high quality windows (I did research---they're the best!), so it was an easy decision.  That's why I chose HomeStar and here's what they did today when they installed my new windows:
Mark and his crew, Nick and Justin, arrived right on time and got to work.  They had all the windows (11 of them) out in less than an hour and they did a great job of cleaning up as they went, including my request to put all recyclables in our bin.  Their teamwork was fantastic and I'm sure that's why they were able to get everything done so quickly.  There was a lot of caulking that had to be done to compensate for the out-of-square frames this house presents, but they did a beautiful job and Mark even repaired an area that was hidden from sight and had had water damage.  They made sure everything was clean inside and out before they left and it was an absolute pleasure to have them here!
I'll be adding my name to the list of people you can call to ask if HomeStar is good and I'll be proud to recommend them!
September 27, 2014:  Over the weekend we had lashing rain and there was water coming in one of my new windows.  I called Monday morning and Tom came out that afternoon. The issue was NOT with the window, but with the stucco, so certainly not something HomeStar was responsible for, but Tom checked every window and added some caulk to keep things dry until I can get some stucco people out.  He urged me to call if there were any more leaks and said he'd come right out.  Now THAT is customer service and it's exactly what I've gotten from HomeStar from the very beginning!  Thanks, Tom :)"

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

An interior French door should last you anywhere between 30 and 50 years, while an exterior French door unit will last around 15 to 30 years on average. Exactly how long your French doors last depends on the quality of the materials you choose, with vinyl doors lasting far less time than fiberglass, metal, and clad-wood doors. Upgrading to shatterproof glass can also improve the lifespan of exterior French doors.

Most exterior door knobs have their screws on the interior facing side to prevent against potential theft. If you’re locked out of your house and are trying to remove the door knob from the outside, it’s best to call a locksmith who has the appropriate tools.

There are a few ways to make your storm door less drafty. For example, if the bottom of your storm door is letting in air, you can lower the door sweep so there’s a smaller gap between your door and the floor. You can also install weatherstripping or apply caulk around the door frame.

Yes, they address functionality and aesthetics, restoring your door's appearance and structural integrity.

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.
