"Our repairman was very knowledgeable with many years of experience. He saved us money by not insisting the crawl space be cleaned up before repairing the sump pump piping . He willingly scooped out the top layer of contaminated soil and spread lime to kill the sewer flies and eliminate the odor. The other plumbers we got a quote from wanted us to use a restoration company before they would repair the leak."

"They came out on a Saturday, but could not finish the job, they had to come back on Monday morning to finish up. When they put the sink back together, they forgot to install back the garbage disposal. They also did not have too much knowledge of the piping and because of that, they only replace one for Spicket and only replace parts on another. When I tried to call to complain about the garbage disposal, they kept circling back to different phone numbers."

"Our air conditioner stopped working on the first hot day of the summer. I checked Angie's List and found that SameDay Heating & Air had the highest ratings of anyone around. I called them and a sales rep came out that very evening. He wasn't at all pushy. He sized up the job and gave us a report and estimate. He explained the different grades of air conditioners and when we chose a middle-of-the-road model, he was fine with that and didn't try to up-sell us. He mentioned that our heater was looking pretty sad (which we were well aware of) and said he could discount the cost of a new heater if we bundled it with the new air conditioner. Again, he wasn't pushy, but he took time to explain the benefits. When the installers came, they were well prepared, polite, and knowledgeable. We got them some pizzas and sodas for lunch and they were very appreciative. They cleaned up well after the installation and even fixed some ducting in the heater room at no charge. The only "dings" I might give are that (1) the sales rep said he would bring us our government rebate paperwork so that we can get some money off on our taxes, but he hasn't yet and (2) the sales rep said that the installers would place a soundproofing pad under the air conditioning unit, but they didn't. I asked them why they hadn't and they had a reasonable explanation, so I let it go. Fortunately, the unit is nice and quiet, so I don't think it was a problem not to put the pad down."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

There are several common signs that your main sewer line may be clogged. Key indicators include multiple fixtures in your home draining slowly, gurgling sounds coming from drains or toilets, and water backing up into showers, sinks, or toilets. You might also notice water backing up from the plumbing system's drain cleanout, water in your basement drain, or unexplained wet patches on your lawn. Foul odors, such as the smell of raw sewage or rotten eggs, are another common symptom. The most reliable way to confirm a main sewer line clog is to hire a professional plumber to perform a camera inspection.

Yes, sewage smells can originate from a floor drain. If the P-Trap in the floor drain dries out or if there's a clog or other issue in the plumbing system, sewer gasses can escape through the drain, causing nasty odors. Regularly pouring water into the drain helps maintain the water seal and prevent those smells, but if the smell persists, you should have a plumbing professional inspect the drain for potential problems.

Water leaking through your basement floor is a good sign of a clogged drain, but another sign of a clogged basement floor drain can include unpleasant odors coming from the drain. Also, hearing gurgling noises when water drains from the basement or having other plumbing fixtures (like toilets or other drains) backing up is a good indicator.

Regardless of the drain cleaner type you choose to use, they all work through chemical reactions that create heat. Thanks to the heat, the clogged hair begins to dissolve until it is able to be flushed away. To avoid clogs in your drain due to hair, use hair catchers and empty them out after every shower.

As a preventative measure, hydro jetting should be done every one to two years. However, the best practice is to hydro jet your sewer line once per year. The ideal frequency depends on several factors, including the age and condition of your pipes, how prone they are to clogging, how often the sewer line is used, and the type of waste disposed of in the system. If you frequently experience clogs or are unsure, it's best to ask a licensed plumber for a recommendation specific to your plumbing system.
