"Jay Concrete & Construction did an excellent job on my new driveway. They not only performed a very valuable service, but they were also very careful to clean up after the job was done. They take pride in the work they do, and their reputation is evidenced by my many neighbors who have also used their service"

"The pricing was very fair and they finished the job incredibly fast (3 days total for about 172 feet of fencing, including the removal of old fencing stuck in ivy roots). Joey was nice and professional; he really knows his stuff. He also fixed our gate while he was at it."

"Jeremy came quickly and assured me it was an easy and fast fix and he just needed an additional part he'd pick up in Sandy. He came back, repaired it within 10 minutes and it works great.
BUT.....because I have worked with Earthworks before, they were, of course, my first (my ONLY) call.  Nowhere on Angie's List and never during my conversation with Marissa was I told there was a two-hour minimum (all the other projects they've done were much bigger, so it never came up).  At $65/hour, this 10 minute job cost me$130!  Had I known, I would have looked for a local handyman and that is certainly what I'll do in the future.  And, yes, I did talk with Marissa at Earthworks regarding the bill and it stands as billed.
I'm sorry, guys, you've lost my business.

"Better than I could've hoped for. Bob and Brandon were awesome! They showed up for the consultation early, but not obnoxiously early. First thing I appreciated. They were honest about what needed to be done. This was a Saturday, said they would have estimates for me on Monday. They called me Sunday, directly, which I appreciated. Not only did they give me different options, they were up front with what each one had, and didn't have to offer. They also informed me they wouldn't be able to start until Wednesday due to another job they were working on. Though it sucked, I understood, and appreciated their honesty. Got another call a short while later informing me they could actually start the next day on Monday due to an unexpected wait on some tile for another customer. I was floored! I was so happy to be a priority for them, really made me feel special. My wife and I needed this done so we could sell our house and were not looking forward to waiting. Needless to say, we felt blessed. The job took two days, it wasn't big, just beyond my own skill set. Not only did they put new siding in, but they went above and beyond and made new frames for all the windows, put in a new flood light, and caulked one more window for us. The place looks amazing! These two take pride in their craft, and that's what I'll call it because it was more than just work to them. Not only was it good, but done a lot sooner than we were expecting. I was so happy that I gave them both a $50 gift card to Texas Roadhouse. Should I need to the services of a good handyman again, I'm calling these guys first."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.

Yes, you can convert manual gates to electric operation. Installing a motor and an opening device from a kit allows you to convert any gate so it can open and close automatically. Be sure to buy the correct type of opener for your gate style. For example, some openers are specific to swinging gates, while others are for sliding gates. Get familiar with your swinging or sliding gate parts before you go shopping to avoid having to return to the store for the correct opener.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

A sliding gate, or a sliding gate door, is a versatile gate system used for various applications. Sliding gate mechanisms allow the gate to move horizontally along a track or guide system when opened or closed. They come in multiple types, including sliding folding gates, telescopic gates, cantilever gates, and track sliding gates. These gates are known for their durability, ease of installation, and user-friendly operation, making them popular for property access and security.
