"Clayton (owner of Kodiak Landscape) is very professional, personable and easy to work with! He came over to look at my weedy park strip within a few hours of my phone call to him, explained the process and showed me pictures of decorative rock color choices. And he quoted me a very reasonable price. Two days later he brought his crew over and did the job! He trucked in his skid loader, removed tons of dirt, laid down and stapled high-quality weed mat plus steel edging and then trucked in 5-6 tons of the 1.5â rocks. They then covered the park strip and smoothed out the rocks, and it looks fabulous! I am SO happy with his work, and just wish I had done this years ago! I highly recommend him and wish I had more property that needed work!"

Snow Removal FAQs, answered by experts

Using a snow blower can make removing snow easier if you have physical limitations and a large area to cover. Snow blowers can remove large amounts of snow quickly, which can also save you time. However, shoveling can be efficient for smaller areas with light snow. The method you use will depend on the specific situation and your preference. Of course, you can skip doing it yourself and stay out of the cold by hiring a snow removal company near you.

The cost to purchase a snow blower ranges from $100 to $2,300 on average, depending on the make, model, type, and age of the machine. More advanced two-stage and three-stage models, which are often self-propelled and include features like power steering and heated hand grips, can cost between $950 and $1,500 or more. If you only need a snow blower temporarily, you can rent one for an average of $75 per day from a local hardware store or rental facility.

Generally, snow removal from a roof should occur once over six inches of snow accumulates, especially if you notice that ice dams have formed. Without ice dams, you can let the snow accumulation hit 12 inches before removing it. However, the amount of snow that is too much for your roof also depends on the sturdiness of your roof and the compactness of the snow. If your roof needs maintenance or has structural issues, it’s best not to let the snow accumulate too much for fear of collapsing.

If you’re looking at how to remove snow from solar panels, heat from the sun usually melts the snow within a few days. However, snow removal might be necessary for winter solar power production in areas with deep snow during the winter. There are brushes with telescoping handles and gentle heads to brush away snow. It’s best to stay on the ground if possible and avoid using tools that could scratch the surface of the solar panels, like a snow shovel or broom.

Rubbing alcohol may also remove ice from your driveway in a pinch. It has a lower freezing point than water, which expedites the unfreezing process. Pour 70 percent isopropyl alcohol into a quart or half-gallon spray bottle and spray it on your driveway. You do not have to dilute it with water.
